As it's been so long (August 08) then the chances of catching the culprits are now miniscule, so I wouldn't get your hopes up of getting your money back.
At the time it would have been a good idea to send pictures to all Nottingham jewelers, but 6 months on I'm quite sure the chain will have been sold, and the occupants long gone.

How long after August did you report the matter to the police?
