Don't drink the water, instead take a glass / bottle to your bedside.0

Okay, excuse me if this is a stupid question, and also please excuse me if this isn't in the right part of the site, but feel free to move.
Is it "safe" to drink water from the upstairs bathroom? When I was growing up my parents always said not to drink the water from the taps in the bathroom but why? Isn't is the same source as the downstairs taps?
Thanks.
All sounds bad - My sis told me that the upstairs sink was connected directly wiv the toilet and I would be drinking her waste products...
But as I got older I realised that she must be lying as my parents used the upstairs water to wash m' mouth out wiv soapy water lol... for swearing!
So, unless they wanted to dirty my mouth more, then my Sis was defo lying man!Granite Worktops are great for your Kitchen!0 -
All water from the taps is safe.
The issue with a bathroom tap is not the water, but the tap itself.
Every time you do a number 2 and flush, microscopic fecal matter flies into the air and will settle around the room ... on the taps.
This is why a loo has a lid. All this talk of men leaving the seat up/down ... the point of a lid is the LID should always be dropped down after a loo's been used and before flushing, to keep most microscopic bits and bobs flying about.0 -
the rising mains should go straight to the kitchen tap direct. thats why its drinkable.
every other tap/boiler etc in the rest of the house was normally fed from an open tank in the loft. hence not suitable for drinking.
this was/is the most common method.
the advent of combi boilers has changed all that.
with a combi fitted, it should then be safe to drink from any tap. (there is no tank used) all taps are fed direct.
(cold water).Get some gorm.0 -
I was always told not to drink water from the upstairs tap as it came from a tank. When we were doing work on our old place we found a dead bird (well remains of) in the water tank! Yuck, yuck & yuck again. There was a bees nest in the loft too....obviously it was a free for all for all the local wildlife.
So, if you have a tank I would take a bottle or glass of water with you.0 -

I agree with never enough.
Our bathroom basin tap is fed from the tank in the loft.
I have been up there many times. The tank water is dusty and dirty, despite being covered.
The only safe tap in our house is the kitchen sink, which comes straight from the water main.
We do use the bathroom basin tap to swill our mouths while brushing teeth, but would not drink it in quantity.
As has been said previously: if you are unsure about your water supply, take a glass (or bottle) of water from the kitchen for your bedside table. No point in risking stomach upset by drinking the bathroom water.0 -

I don't know how old you or the house you lived in is, but we had lead piping leading to the bathroom cold tap and were always warned not to drink from there.0
