Eclipse internet[

I am coming to the end of a 12 month contract with eclipse and I have rung them up to check the length of notice required to cancel and move to another supplier.
They have told me that
If I cancel today I have to pay a cancellation charge of £21
or if I request a MAC today there is a early termination fee of £69
apparently I cannot send a letter instructing either or one of these fees will apply!
so what they are saying is that I have to ring on Wednesday to request a MAC exactly 30 days before the end of the contract and rely on them to process it correctly with no proof on my side that it has happened!!
and if I do not request a MAC on Wednesday but on Thursday they will charge me a further months internet access!
I am sure this is not right and I am going to check the ofcom stuff about broadband cancellation.
I will find it virtually impossible to cancel on wednesday as I ghave an interview and then I am supporting someone else at a grievance meeting and then I am looking after two toddlers.
are they being unreasonable and feeding me bs?

Not sure where you stand legally, but I don't see why they can't accept a call on Tuesday whereby you say you are giving notice as from Wednesday. Sounds ridiculously petty of them to me. If I rang up and wasn't sure if I wanted to leave or not, that kind of response would make me determined to do so.
Is their customer service 24 hours?-if so I would be tempted to call them at midnight + one minute on Wednesday morning just to shove it to them!
Alternatively can you email them?
Whatever you do, I would send them a letter by recorded delivery as well so that you have some proof of what you have done, as they don't sound like they can be relied upon.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
They definitely gave you bs about charging you fees if you put your requests in writing.
Their ts + cs cover giving notice (note no mention of any fee for putting it in writing, nor any maximum period of notice):....this Agreement will continue until You give Us at least thirty (30) days' written notice....0 -
Eclipse are based here in Exeter and I've had many dealings with them as part of my job. They are a joke, no question. I cannot stand dealing with them. Complete bunch of muppets. Admittedly, their broadband connection is relatively good, but their customer service is poor beyond words.0

Eclipse assume you will use the MAC within its 30 day validity therefore if you request one more than 30 days before the end of your contract you have to pay early exit fee.
Apply for and use the MAC any time after Wednesday and they pro-rata your final bill, not charge a full month.
My final bill was for £1.45 and I followed their instructions similar to yours and used the MAC about a week after I got it (got MAC same day as applied for).“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0
