I spend some time each year in Sheringham, on the N Norfolk coast. The town has two industries - tourism and retirement. This whole coastal area is a very nice place to live, and most of it's less than an hour to Norwich, although i haven't tried the journey during the rush hour. Outside Norwich, jobs are not that easy to get or well paid.

Haha in rush hour nearer 2 hours - in winter when the roads are bad, there's the odd crash could be 3 hours quite often..... Norwich is a fairly large city and takes considerable time to get in and around - bit like north london - 3-4 miles can take the best part of an hour

Check out Wroxham - reasonable prices and on the broads for you - 3 bed terrace from £165k (oh watch out as some of the properties are not for all year dwelling)

3 bed 1930s bungalow at good price: £210k

Wroxham/Hoveton village centre offers a range of facilities including shops, supermarkets, banks, post office, doctors' surgery and schools. For the sailing or fishing enthusiast the River Bure runs through the centre of the village and gives access to the Norfolk Broads generally. There is a bus and rail service to the City of Norwich which lies within 7 miles.

If you are looking at the Norwich area, avoid Costessey, it can be rough: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costessey
