Norfolk is massive and the roads are rubbish it can take a good 2-3 hours to get from one side to t'other.... can you be less vague... do you want a town, cheap flat wasteland miles from services, what kind of job..... what made you think of it in the first place...0 -
Hi Barnaby it would be a house/bungalow (permanent structure) with at least 3 rooms OH would probably work in Norwich as he is an engineer we like the area around the broads dont know if this helps we are in Essex at the moment and it is becoming increasingly expensive to live here0

Salaries are very low in East Anglia and unemployment is fairly high, Norwich is very congested to commute in or even around... cheaper areas are usually cheap for a reason - the nice bits of the broads are correspondingly expensive - to be honest I think you need to think about the job first and then see where you could live to get to it. People commute an hour plus to find work around there and finding work locally, coupled with rubbish roads, broads/fens = need to cross broads so long detours and bridge congestion.... it can be quite a bleak area to find work in but if you can find a job then look at areas - finding a house/area isn't much use if you can't then find a job or spend 3hours a day getting back and forth...0 -
With children of that age don't you want to start by sussing out the decent schools first?0

Why Norfolk? What is the need to move to Norfolk? Moving there simply because it's cheaper than where you currently live could be a mistake."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Hi thanks for replies oldest daughter would be at college and the other 2 would fit in most places as they are middle of the road kids . We have seen a job for OH now in Norwich he is time served and the wage isnt too bad but oldest daughter is just about to do her exams so we cant do anything now if we dont move in summer we would have to wait 3 years as the other 2 would be doing their options and exams son is 2 years behind oldest daughter so choosing options now youngest daughter is 1 year behind him bit complicated i know0

I live in Norfolk, about 8 miles from Norwich. If you like the broads area, then be prepared for a real hassle getting anywhere south of the city. Rush hour is a nightmare.
Not sure what you really want - village, town, estate, country. You need to get up there and drive about to see what area would suit you and then check out the public transport and schools.
Have a look on the property websites. Norfolk - in the Norwich area/good areas is certainly NOT a cheap place to buy property. In my little town the good individual house prices are equivalent to surburban London now.
New build/estates are cheaper. South of the city, Hethersett may suit you, easy travel to Norwich and the city college, decent schools, own shops, doctors, dentists and library. Have to say though, that a huge influx of big city dwellers is bringing some problems all over Norfolk. Not a lot for teenage kids to do.0 -
I spend some time each year in Sheringham, on the N Norfolk coast. The town has two industries - tourism and retirement. This whole coastal area is a very nice place to live, and most of it's less than an hour to Norwich, although i haven't tried the journey during the rush hour. Outside Norwich, jobs are not that easy to get or well paid.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Sheringham would be a very difficult journey to Norwich in the rush hour - most job seekers there would look to Kings Lynn/Fakenham for work.
The coastal area further to the east of Sheringham is rightly known as Chelsea on Sea and the properties are horrendously expensive, even tiny two up two down cottages. Yarmouth is cheap but there is a reason .........................
I beg your pardon, for some reason I read Sheringham as SandringhamNot so bad for travel in then but small, windy roads and still a difficult journey.
