People read far too much nonsense on boards like this and scare themselves silly.

I honestly believe that if you have real problems then you will get what you are entitled to. You just need to tell it like it is. If you meet the criteria then you will get the benefit.

the Atos doctors do not get a bonus for everyone they turn down as a lot of people seem to think.

Agree with Krisskross - just explain to them honestly how you are affected they are qualified doctors and are not there to catch you out.
  • I have had 3 dla medicals in the last 6 years and in my personal experience i felt it a very positive experience as it gives you a chance to explain fully how your illness effects you. They spent about an hour and a half with me and i got dla LRM/MRC which was right i feel, Try not to worry.

you have to be true full , i had the doctor come out . spent about an hour talking and a nose around the house in all rooms to see how things where and asked how i coped in each room.asks to see all medication you have listed on notes ect. and will do a medical test/exam as well , nothing to be frighten of, as this is a normal day to day as you are, and is nice to have some one to your home to see just how bad you are. and to learn from him that you have hardly any balance at all... oh dear another illness,

Hey I agree with you Jamla, infact when people come visit for anything I tend to keep them here too long and won't let them go because I am so lonely I need to talk and tell people how I'm doing etc. If you are genuine and tick all the boxes that need to be ticked then I am sure you have nothing to worry about.

i am really scared as i hate seeing people ..
Is this because, like me, you have a deep-seated fear of other people? Tell the doctor, and try to have someone you trust with you for the visit. I was absolutely terrified when I had to go through this, but my husband took the day off to be with me, and explained to the doctor how scared I was. In fact the doctor was very pleasant, and made the whole thing as easy for me as she could; in fact, I was surprised when my DLA was actually increased as a result of her visit.

    Best of luck.

When I first applied for DLA I got the doctors visit. They helpfully changed the timing to suit me. Checked things with me etc and wrote report. I got turned down but appealed. I used their doctors evidence as my appeal! I was then made an award so for me it was theire evidence thjat geve me the award just a shame DLA people didnt read it until I went to appeal!

hi, just to say ,doctor just left and i could not sleep these last 2 days with worry..he was really nice but wanted me to walk for him..i got my friend to pull me up but legs locked in place and could not move, i said i cannot do it at moment but he said try and walk...i expect he thought i was faking otherwise why would he tell me to walk when i was stuck in pain...at the end he told me its not up to him if i get granted and dla..so now i,m worrying that he is going to give me a bad report ...if i,m turned down i won,t try again as it has been so stressfull,,,its really horrible trying for dla , my home is dirty as i cannot move very well and i felt so ashamed that someone had to come to see me in the mess, plus i also feel i am sponging...if i,m turned down it will prob be a relief because i wont have to go through it again.. i dont know how other people manage..its horrible.

shely33 least you through it. and hopefully will get approved .. doctor told me house was very clean ,friends help out on that side , but i got it . finger 's crossed for you. i think they like to see you try to walk a bit because its very hard to fake pain .as you seem to shake and wobble and hobble , and eyes fill up , like me and everyone else, thinking of you ,big huggs
