T Mobile attitude to premium rate text scams
Just bought a new PAYG nokia 1100 which included £5 call credit on T Mobiles network. Hadn't used it for anything apart from turning it on when I got scammed for £4.50 premium rate texts leaving me 50p.
T Mobile initially refused to budge from a stance that ' you have to sort it out yourself and it's nothing to do with us', even when I could demonstrate that it is probably them at fault for not properly protecting the reissued numbers. People who are going to steal from you are not going to listen to the individual customer so surely the networks have a role to play to control these scams.
You have to take it further than customer services with the company to resolve.T Mobile customer relations have after a bit of pushing, refunded the £4.50 taken from what was a reconditioned phone number where a previous owner probably initiated the text. As this was the first charge I could demonstrate I hadn't initiated it.
If enough of us complain and push the networks then as they are big enough to influence Ofcom and other authorities they might get them to act in controlling this theft.
