Karrimor - is this still a good make?? As i was after some walking boots and notice that soccer world sells them for £20-99. But i am sure i read some where on the net that they had been taken over by a disocunt retailer and the quality was now poor???
DAK as i am after some boots and a rucksack as i prep up for my travels.

Karrimor is effectively now owned by Lonsdale- hence why a lot of the stuff can be found in sports world.

I bought about £100 worth of the Karrimor stuff from Sports World last week and very happy. To a certain extent- you get what you pay for (the original RRP's on the labels are ridiculous and would never sell for that much!)

KSB summit 'approach shoes'- (not really suitable for long distance hiking, but day walking- fine) £20.99
Waterproof trousers £5.49 (won't keep you dry in a torrential downpour but light to through in the rucksack to protect you from a summer shower)
    Likewise the waterproof jackets £11.49
Bought 2 of the 30L day sacks good value at £8.99 and 2 40L holdalls, also at £8.99 (great for throwing in the back of the car for a weekends walking).
One of the better buys were the walking trousers reduced to £4.49 a pair, so I bought 3!- lightweight and suprisingly breathable for the price.
And a nice black fleece for £7.99, which I have already worn up Snowdon and it kept me nice and warm! :D

Would have liked to have found the 65L rucksack advertised on the website at £17.99 but there weren't any in the 2 stores I tried (Bham Fort and Bullring). The rucksacks are made by somebody else and should be of the 'original' Karrimor quality as are the better walking boots circa £40 upwards. Beware the Karrimor labelled items in Blacks stores- this is the cheap Blacks own-brand items (sleeping bags etc) which they are now branding as Karrimor after purchasing some rights to the name. Shame really that a once renowned British company can have it's name tarnished by such varying quality!

IMO if are going to do 'serious' walking- with the risk of wet weather- buy better quality Berghaus, Lowe Alpine, Craghoppers etc. For summer activities these are great value and look the part!

in my local sports world (becton) they were having massive reductions,
    i got a £32.99 cricket bat for £9.89 (70%off)
    the i got a £39.99 jacket for £3.99 (90% Off!):j
and also got a £49.99 pair of adidas f10+ football boots for £24.99 :)
as far as i could see almost everything was getting reduced!

go to your local one to grab some bargains :)

That outfit's always having 70, 80 or even 90% sales!!!! They're also known as 'Sports Soccer' and 'Lillywhites' in London! Most of their stuff's okay, you tend to see most of the local chavs wearing it, hence the reason I don't often buy much stuff there! :D
