We painted our number on our bin over 5 years ago in white emulsion on both the lid and the body of the bin and it still stands out a mile!

Are you sure thats emulsion as its Thixotropic water based, ie .water soluble.

Washes off in the rain.

    White gloss paint for me.

I didn't want to have to wash a paint brush out, so I used.........

    Kitchen paper........

It's quite, shall we say, recognisable as my bin :p

    Aye :D

I used magnolia eggshell emulsion on ours and two years on it's a bit chipped but you can definately still tell that it's ours :D
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • i just grab whichever bin is left.
  • If you suffer the same problems that I do - IE the scumbags and low life nick your wheelie then do as I did and burn in "Stolen from No. xx on the lid base and wheels!

And slop some Gloss paint around the hinges and fiddly bits - they cannot be bothered to clean it off.
The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...

Dont forget that there is a serial number relating to the house number
just below the handles and it can be traced back to the owner.

Did you use a gloss paint or regular emulsion?

The only reason I keep pushing the paint idea is because I have a tin that could be used up - it'd save me a few quid on buying some sticky numbers as well  !

    Hello muffinhead

White gloss paint does work well, I painted our bins with it. I used a stencil and marked the bin with a fine point black pen first (for the outline), then filled it in with white gloss paint. As well as the house number, I added our street name too. It is a work of art:rolleyes: and has had admiring glances from our neighbour............no, really.:D

i got some free paint samples with the brushes and used that couldnt care what colour and if it fades you just touch it up.. if you got paint already does it matter if in time it chips or fades just touch it up like you would do any paint job..
