OK then, its not practical because i do 500 miles + in one go on a weekly basis. Loaded with 3-4 people and our gear. Not that, that is any of your business.

Can't one of the other people drive instead?

Your best bet is to be second driver on someone elses churchill/DL policy for a year or so, then bite the bullet..

    .

Please be cautious with advice people, this is recommending his father "fronts" the policy which if he is the main user (Which it appears he is) could mean the Insurance company void his policy and do not pay a claim if he has a claim. "Fronting" can technically be classed as fraud as well.

Taking a policy out in a parents (Or other adult) name to get the premium down when the young driver is the main driver is not something to advise and if you are advising it please point out the risks involved

That wasn't actually what I was recommending....

I asked if other people could drive him and he could *be* a second driver...not *be insured* as the second driver...

Bobby, do your parents drive your car at all? Or do they want to? Why not get a quote with you as the main driver and them added on as named drivers - think you will be suprised :)

couple of good posts, thanks for nothing the rest of you

You asked for advice and received it.
A couple of people have hinted that you may be driving on a policy that is invalid, others suggested a smaller car but all you can say is "thanks for nothing"??

It's sad but as a young male driver you're much more likely to have an accident than a an older female. You may not like it and you may be a very good driver but insurance companies work a lot on stats. And since you fall into a high risk stat or group (whether you actually are or not is irrelevant) then your premium is loaded to offset that risk.

    Things to reduce the premium
    size and performance of car
    experience
    age of driver
    no claims discount

Since the only thing on the above list you can control (unless the car you have is a Delorean sporting a flux capacitor) is the size of the car then you need to get a smaller one.

You may also find that in the event of an accident your premium is wasted anyway since you're driving on your father's policy which has already been pointed is called fronting and has a good chance of making any claim you may make invalid.

Some posters on here can be a bit sharp and to the point but on a topic like this, it's understandable - it's asked almost daily. They may be sharp and abrupt but they're usually right. It would sensible of you to heed the advice given and not be so sarcastic if it's not what you want to hear.

Looking at the nasty replies from bobbybright (following HIS request for advice) perhaps the best action from this point is just to stop posting and close this thread.

What is wrong with people who come on here asking for advice and then moan when they are told the truth? Do people expect us to lie and agree with them? It happens all over the forum - especially when it comes to insurance and banking.
  • The OP can bite the bullet like i did 18 years ago. Yes it is expensive to insure a car as a young driver but i made do with a crappy Metro for a few years and had a motorbike which was cheap to insure. When the OP gets a bit older then the premium will come down. Sometimes life is not fair but thats they way it is.
