DONT give him the £7 refund. That is what he was after all along. Report him to ebay maybe but definitely don't give him a partial refund. It peeves me off when buyers try and pull that one. Its like we're all stupid!!

    Dani,

Do not provide any type of partial refund if you feel your description was accurate regarding the physical condition of the gameboys.

Report it to eBay. If he leaves a negative feedback, just add a reply to it (which will show under his feedback message) saying something like the buyer wanted a partial refund. If you have all good feedback apart from this, people that read your feedback will be able to work out that the buyer was probably in the wrong.

The part where he says he had to buy some covers for the gameboys is absolute rubbish because he would still have to state the condition of the gameboys regardless of whether it comes with a removable cover/case or not.

Take a look at the lot that he has sold, what does he say about the condition? My guess is he says something similar to what was on your description, which would pretty much prove that he does not believe the gameboys are in a different state of condition to what your description stated.

Sounds to me that they're trying it on.

I would reply saying something along the lines of "As per my description, the items had no scratches on when I sent them, of which I have photographic evidence, so they must have been damaged in the post. If you return the full package via recorded delivery, I will issue you with a refund, then I can claim the damage from Royal Mail. I can't claim from the Royal Mail unless you return the items, as it is the sender who has to make the claim. If RM then accept the claim, I will then refund you your return postage."

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

They have several gamboys listed so cannot tell which (if any) are mine. The only part of my lot I can trace in their listings are a couple of games of which the condition is not disputed.

I am concerned that receiving a negative will drop my rating to 90% which looks pretty poor - especially if I want to sell stuff in the future. (I suppose I could boost it by buying more stuff though :D)

Do you think this would put buyers off, or would they take the trouble to read the comments and understand that I am not really a bad person :A

I do feel like I'm being held to ransom (as even if I did refund them £7 they could still leave me neg/neutral feedback)

I think pinkshoes answer has hit the nail on the head.

By sending him that message you are offering a full refund including return postage so if they are really as bad as the buyer says they are he will jump at the chance.
Also if he then does go on to leave a neg you can in all honesty reply by saying "Offered full refund of all costs on return of item. Buyer declined offer"

Like you say, you could partial refund and still get a neg so I wouldn't bother.

How many feedback points do you have currently? Is it worth creating a new account in your housbands name for example?

I wouldn't worry about the % rating, if a buyer views your item and wants it, they will check your feedback messages and see that it was a problem with the buyer not you.

I don't think Royal Mail will compensate if you claim the gameboy arrived with a couple of scratches on it.

I don't agree with the person that said offer a full refund inc postage, because you believe your description was accurate so why should you pay for return postage.

You have already offered a refund for the goods which seems to have been declined because he is already selling everything. You have done everything that you are obliged to do.

The bottom line is, the buyer is happy enough to not want a refund, and sounds like is holding your feedback to ransom so be sure to report him. If he does end up giving you a neg, I'd leave a feedback message for him (even if it has to be positive) and say what happend so that hopefully some buyers will read it and avoid.
