How much are you using the heating in this cold snap?

hi guys. Just got to thinking today, is there anyone out there who still isn't using their heating? We have been running our gas central heating 24/7 for the last 3 days, on a temp between 15 and 25 degrees depending on when it is and exactly how cold it is. Boiler hasn't been firing very much at all and we have had to turn it down to 15 when it got really warm! Left it on about 18 overnight. House has been really toasty, had our coal fire lit for at least 10 hours a day burning housecoal and Blaze smokeless. How are you guys running your heating in this cold weather?

About £5 a day 3 bedroom house 2 people.0

Never have it on overnight - on half an hour before we get up, off half hour before we go to bed. On and off as needed through day. No other heating - why have fire alight if you have heating on?0

We're 4 adults in a 4 bedroom 1890's end of terrace with double glazing, insulation and curtains in front of the front and back doors and sausage draught excluders on the doors too, and our usage seems to be approx £4.50 a day based on the bill we had through for 2 months just last week. Really surprised me actually, I thought the statement would have been much higher. We have an exceptionally old Glowworm Fuelsaver F boiler circa 1977 and a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. We dont have the hot water on seperately as we have electric showers, dont bath as on a meter for water, and just wash up every other day or so, and the water seems to heat up very nicely when the heating is on anyway. Be interested to hear from anyone on here who used solid fuel heating, either a back boiler or a coal fed boiler, see what their costs are like. With coal for our fire on top, our heating costs are approx £100 a month, but we are about £300 in debit with the gas, but this will be cleared in no time over the summer with our DD of £83 a month.

 Im havent, weather was much milder when the snow came, much better than those hard frosts. :wave:0 -
Mine's running no differently to normal, it probably has to work a bit harder granted, but I've not changed a thing.0

I have been trying to keep my heating off as much as possible, using gas fire only when I can and if need to have heating on just having the radiator in hall, bedroom, living room and the towel radiator in bathroom (can't turn it off) on and keeping doors closed as much as poss.
I just checked the temp in the hall at the moment (no heating on apart from fire in room) and its a ver chilly 11 degrees out there so the heating will have to go on again later I think.
I find an extra jumper helps and having a blanket on the sofa to cover my legs with if it gets too cool.
Or am I just being really tight?

My view is that I work, earn money and am happy to spend £5 a day on gas in the winter. OH doesn't feel the cold as much as me, four kids (all 15+ now) are like me and like the house warm. We don't heat it at night or when we're out but I don't resent paying to heat the house and we can afford to do it.
When the children were younger and I wasn't working or earning a lot less, we couldn't afford to heat more than one room. I don't see heating more than one room as essential and certainly not worth getting into debt over. But I don't want to live that now I don't have to. I'd give up TV, Sky and takeaways before giving up my central heating.0 -
I've got the heating set to 14 degrees when I'm at home, and turn it to frost setting when I go out.0

I lit a fire, went out for a bit and when i came home I had to turn the heating back up from 15 to 20, went a bit nippy, but it is snowing again, and wind has got up a bit

I'm annoyed. I'm in danger of spending more on gas than I'm getting in cashback. First time that's happened for ages.0
