Will broadband work for me??

I am looking at signing up with madasafish, but am concerned that it may not work. My phone point is about 20ft away from the computer and I run my dial up service using a phone extension cable.

For broadband can I still use this cable rather than laying a permanent cable?

Their FAQ states it "may work", but I don't want to take out a contract for a service that may not work.

any advice gratefully received

as long as it is connected properly it will work. My whole broadband connection for 6 pcs runs off an extension.

thanks you two for your swift responses!!

Is it just a standard phone extension lead or something more technical needed

    Cheers

  • In the worst case, you might need an extension lead made up of twisted pairs rather than a "flat" one - or a USB extension to put your modem next to the phone point (unless it's an ethernet router, in which case you have another 94m of cable length available before you're out of 'standard')

I use one of the standard extensions and have then wired it in culminating in a separate box by my pc. But a standard extension would work just as well.

It should be fine. I wouldn't run it much longer than that though. Ideally they say no more than 4m as it can degrade line quality. Extension cable is solid wire, whereas telephone cable stranded, which helps reduce interference.

Just try not to run it next to any mains cables etc... or anything that may cause interference (anything noisy).
