Talk Talk - !!@@@!!

My Mum has switched over to Talk Talk (one of those things she did on her own and now regretting it!).

There is no 1571 (or similar) service and this morning she has no service (dial tone) etc whatsoever.

I rang their customer services - in a queue for over 5 minutes - and they would not test the line for me. Kept on about data protection act etc. which I can understand but all I wanted to know was if there was actually a fault on the line - and they couldn't do that.

I am furious. With a BT line you can use the automated service to at least check. The upshot of the whole conversation was that they suggest my Mother ring from her mobile (so, costing a fortune!) or from someone else's phone.

Ridiculous! Avoid Talk Talk - all they do is Talk and not a lot else.

    Will do.

    And Carphone Warehouse.

    And Tele 2.

    And OneTel.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I am on talk talk and i can still use my BT 1571 and ringback etc. She shouldn't have lost the use of this when using Talk Talk. Do they not use the BT line?

Sounds like she made the mistake of allowing herself to be persuaded to change her line rental to them whereas you are just CPS with them.

TT do provide basic 1571 service for their line rental customers but after the first month it costs 50p which brings their line rental up 10.49p+ 50=£10.99p a month. .Which is virtually the same as BT basic line rental of £11 which includes 1571.If you wont caller display as well its free with BT but it costs £1.75p a month with TT.So if you not on any offer your paying £1.74p a month more with TT(nearly £21 a year).Thats 58 01/02 calls a month on 1899!

i thought line rental was £9.99 with talk-talk!, they did send a list out with all their charges on them, voicemail 1571 is 0.25 extra looking @ my list, so still cheaper than BT, also use their freephone no & then asked to be transferred!, hope this helps, goodluck :)
No one said it was gonna be easy!
  • An update...

My Mum came over about half 1 - its prob worth mentioning that my Dad is disabled and long-term poorly, he has a nap from around 1ish so it is safe to leave him for a short while.

Anyway, rang TT (another 5 minutes in a Q), they asked her the appropriate questions, she was put through to the fault reporting team who said they would ring her back. She specifically requested they do so within 10-15 minutes.

Half an hour later, WE rang THEM (again - btw, I used the 0800 number) they were v sorry for not getting in touch but were waiting to hear from BT as there IS a fault on the line.

So why could they not ring and keep us informed????

Mum told them to put a note on the account that they can actually tell me what is going on when they ring - as she (obviously) wont be here.

The sooner the minimum 3 months is up she's going back to BT.

(sorry for ranting - but these people take the biscuit!!)

I joined TalkTalk a couple of months ago and am very happy so far. I took of the special offer of line rental and unlimited calls fo £9.99 for 6 months, then £17.98 after that. I asked for voicemail at the extra 50p but after a few weeks it wasn'r connected and I forgot about it. Antway, to my surprise I now have BT 1571 without Bt line rental!

Your line rental and call features are still provided by BT.TT get them from BT Wholesale and bill you for them.Nothing changes as far as equipment is concerned.

Overall you are paying in the first year an average of approx £14 a month for the deal you are on.Taking off the BT line rental of £11 (Which includes free caller display and basic 1571) you are left with £3 thats an 100 01/02 calls a month with 1899.On top of that you could have had FREE E&W calls with Primus Saver 2 and you dont pay them if your away/on holiday where as you do with TT. ;)
