The part that terrifys me is the publishing in newspaper thing and my kids and family finding out, I think if it wasnt for those 2 factors I would go for it, I dont care about credit rating etc its just peoples reaction that worries me. I cant see the point in publishing peoples bankrupcy in papers , what is hoped to achieve by doing it?
Why don't you give your local court a ring and ask them if the BR notices are printed in the local press and where? My local paper doesn't print any BR notices - there isn't enough space. It just appears in the Gazette thingy in London.
Might save you some needless worry.....

It isn't the insolvency service that prints it - its the newspapers looking for things to print. Phone your newspaper or better yet look in your local papers - no need to alert your paper to something they could be doing.
