Please note I only look for bankrupcy notices to see if personnel ones are in there for my future intentions on doing so myself, not because I am some kind of ghoul..lol
Hi Poptart1....me too & it really spooks me to think my name will be in there...although when OH went he was never mentioned!!!
Personally...I am sure that it is an infringement of Data Protection Act...personal finances & indications thereof should not be made public anywhere. After all a financial Company is not allowed to give an indication of ones personal situaltion to a third party....so how come the OR can make it public!!!
I know that it is done to make any creditors aware...but thats why we have credit agencies these days!!
Publication needs to be ceased & also public access to IS data online as well..esp where your address is published!!! That is personal data!!
I`ll get off my soapbox now!!

with reference to appearing in the paper, I can't understand how BRs aren't protected under the data protection act, particularly address and occupation. If it were just your name it wouldn't be so bad. I've never heard from a reliable source that paper appearances are ceasing but can't see it being any time soon.0

Hi FYP. I assume you are referring to everyone reading this post. I agree with you totally. I posted to someone the other day worried about this and basically said to not go BR for the sake of the paper appearance would prove to be a very costly and miserable life. I myself have thought long and hard about this and the paper appearance is not going to stop me living a debt free life, especially after being 'shafted' by Norhtern Rock.0

I know what you are saying is absolutley right, but I have to think of the family who live with me, If I lived alone I would not hesitate ,I have 2 teenage kids and the oh ,I could not bear it if they got ribbed about me being in this position,If it just went in the insolvency website I would be ok with that its just the paper thing thats stopping me, hope the law changes soon.If Gordon Brown really wants to help people struggling this is one simple thing that the polititions could change overnight,It does not serve any purpose what so ever except humiliating the most vunerable of society,I will be brave one day.0

Hi poptart. There's no reason why your kids would get ribbed. How many parents who see you in paper are going to tell their kids that so and so mum has gone bankrupt, take the mick out of her kids today and every day at school from now on. I know where your coming from but please stand tall and put yourself out of the misery. The law may change soon, I don't know. I've always wondered why it appears in paper for the benefit of creditors. The chances are your creditors aren't even in the same county.
Chin up poptart, this forum will help you through!;)0 -

Do you not think your life and that of your teenage children would be better if you didn't have to live with the stress of debt? Most people don't even realise how much damage debt does to their lives until they get rid of it and the stress is lifted. Look how many people on here who have gone BR say they are starting to live for the first time in years.
It was because of my family that I chose to go BR. I too have 2 teenage children and this has shown them it isn't the end of the world and that there are solutions to all problems.

When i went BR in Dec clerk went through my forms with me at the desk, then pointed out i'd left out all my unsecured debts, so it looked like i was going BR for £200!, so i quickly wrote in the figures, put rough ones down as the clerk said the or will look contact creditors for exact figures. Phew.0

I forgot to put down date debt incurred so the clerk told me I had to put something and to make it up if necessary.

excellent response !fiveyearplan wrote: »I think they are going to stop the newspaper thing. If it makes you feel any better I don't think mine was published. Does your local newspaper publish such trivia?
If anyone does say anything just say "Oh I always wondered what kind of people read that section of the paper" say that as you look them up and down like they are dog !!!!!!.0
