Eating Well V's Eating Cheaply??

On the subject of eating well and cheaply - I have an old book about getting the best protein combinations from vegetable sources. For example, if you eat lentils with brown rice, you get a better combination of proteins than if you ate them separately. I shall dig it out but I seem to remember that chickpeas have better protein than lentils.
I just have to figure out a way to get DH to eat them ...0 -

I have been insulted in the street by a stranger who shouted at me from his car that I was fat  as if I didn't know. I am disabled with a condition that means I can walk only slowly and have poor balance. I haven't been able to step outside for over a week because I would have fallen over due to the snow. I am overweight because of this condition - I wasn't before it was diagnosed as I used to walk as much as possible. I do try to go for a walk for half an hour most days but I cannot move at sufficient intensity to do any good burning calorie-wise, although it has reduced my blood pressure to normal.0 -

That is their problem, not yours.
It says far more about them than you;)0 -
Okays.....on the mealplanning front then ..I can see it would be harder to think things out fully in advance when other people are involved....so howzabout working on the lines of doing the FULL mealplanning rundown for the week (as suggested by several of us) - but in hindsight.
Rather than writing down what people plan to eat for the coming week - writing down what people have actually had over the past week. Covers all angles then:DThe clue is in the title of the thread. It's a meal PLAN.
When I post on it, it's to plan what we're having so I can work the week's menu around what we are doing, eg. quick tea on Brownies night, and to ensure I am using up food I already have in to reduce waste.
Why would I benefit from writing down what we had last week?. I don't post on the thread to be judged. It's a useful tool and that usefulness would be lost for me if it became a food diary thread so strangers can decide whether I am feeding my family healthily, cheaply, both or neither.

erm on the dessert whip thing, the one i got was 11p, banana's i worked out to be about 10p (asda smartprice ones) and my kids don't like it made with milk... freaks... but hey waters cheaper :P ... hmm actually i did work it out wrong, the "whip" did 4 small glass's (enough for 2 days) so i guess it's 11p / 2 = 5.5p + 11p banana = 16.5p .. blah 20p is close enough hehe.
I'm not sure how you can complain about people watering down milk when you make banana whip with water - surely the whole point of a whip pudding is to get milk into kids - otherwise you are just feeding them sweeteners, colouring and artifical flovouring and you'd be better of spending that 7p on another banana which is at least real food.
Of course I'm not saying kids shouldn't have 'treats' once in while but my treats are homemade cakes and bisucuits not chemicals and I'm not the one preaching about what other people feed their kids.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I started reading this thread and then got rather annoyed by your postings. They are contradictory, supercilious and arrogant.
I feed myself. my OH and baby for less than £30 a week. I am a vegetarian who doesnt use Quorn or other replacement soya proteins, He doesnt get meat every day and baby is breastfed. None of us are verging on death, over weight or unhealthy.
You quite clearly have no idea why people use this board and are trying to say that you are better than most people on here. You say that you manage your diet for £50 a week and yet haven't posted how you do it despite many requests. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that you are talking rubbish.
This board is designed for posters to support and encourage each other, to help people manage financially in these hard times. Not to come on and say '' you feed your family rubbish and I am better than you''.
Needless to say I am quite angry at your postings as there may be people on here who could take what you say personally when they have no need to as you are clearly not a dietician and will put themselves into financial and emotional difficulty buying more and unneccesary food.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks food should be enjoyable and fun.
A pleasure not a challenge.
It just seems that something so simple and basic has become so complicated because everyone is worried by what they are "told is right" nowadays.
I can't remember our grandmothers getting neurotic over food,or being unhealthy or fat which happens so much nowadays.Being unhealthy and fat happened very little then.
It makes you wonder who was right in their thinking.
Why don't we just all eat what we enjoy and do it sensibly and within reason like people used to and not listen to everchanging rubbish that the medical authorities spout out.I've seen them change their advice so often they've been round the houses several times.
If I want to sit and eat half a pound of wine gums I will.I just adjust what else I eat to balance things out.
I've never put on weight and have no health problems and my family are the same.0 -
Oh and lets stop the bickering.
We never seemed to do that on this board before. It was always such a nice and friendly place to visit.xxx0 -
THANK you Mrs Tittlemouse. What's going on here? This board is usually very supportive/non confrontational (unlike the rest of MSE hehehe)
I can see why there are so many backs up.....I must admit my hackles rose on reading some of OP's threads, but hey, that's life. It's everywhere these days - damned if you do, and damned if you don't. I've since learned to just live my life and do the best I can. Things I do aren't going to please everyone, but I can live with that. My family is happy and healthy - what more can we ask for, really.
So, to anyone who is feeling upset or inadequate because of this thread - don't. You can't please all of the people all of the time. It never works.....that way lies insanityAll you can do is your best......and if that isn't up to others standards, well, I daresay they do things that wouldn't be up to yours either. It's of no consequence
None of us are perfect - not one.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
