Have downloaded Avira Antivir as several people on this board said it was better than AVG. Ran a scan which was clear :D but now I am being repeatedly disconnected from my Three mobile internet connection in a manner that has not occurred before. It's as if the computer thinks I have actually unplugged the dongle, rather than just losing the signal temporarily. Also when browsing a website said my browser wasn't accepting cookies, but I have looked on FireFox and cookies are enabled??!! I am also suddenly automatically logging in to eBay when previously it would only remember me for that day.

    Uninstall Avira
    Use the AVG REMOVAL TOOL
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Reinstall Avira (I believe you still have parts of AVG in there)

Reboot and do a fresh hijack log

Thanks: you are an early bird!! How do I know whether to use 34bit or 64bit?

The laptop would not connect properly to the net this morning, so had a rare moment of common sense. Have plugged the dongle directly into the USB port instead of via the (?damaged by overuse) extension cable and the connection is fine at present. Then the in-built fan started making noises ....

use 32 bit. If it doesnt work then yours must be 64 bit (Really desnt matter so long as we can get it to work)
