Upgrading Toshiba laptop RAM

Hi guys,

I'm trying to upgrade the RAM of my father in laws Toshiba laptop but i'm not sure which type i need.

his model is the satellite L100-109 and after investigating his laptop is currently running on 256mb of a possible 2GB of RAM!!!!

Firstly i know this sounds like a silly question but is this the likely reason his laptop is a nightmare and constantly runs rediculously slow?
This is what i'm assumimng so i have offered to find and upgrade his RAM.

I have tried to scan his laptop using the tool from the crucial website but it doesn't recognise his computer. Also there is no option for the L100-109 when you search manually.

there are options for the L100-112 and L100-113 etc

They bring up the following result

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Satellite%20L100-112

will this be compatable with his laptop? I also forgot to mention I live 300 miles away from the laptop in question and only visit periodically-therefore i cant take out the current RAM to check and my in laws would die at the thought of using a screwdriver on his laptop.

many thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks for such a swift reply espresso.

What exactly is a screen dump? how would he do that?

If it helps I do have remote access to his laptop/desktop so is it something that i could do remotely?

No need for all that. Crucial shows the correct memory module, but you have erred in using the US website instead of the UK site.

    DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

The laptop will take the same as the L100-112 and 113.
  • great so i'll buy two 1GB modules and put them in. Do you agree that there should be some considerable improvement in upgrading from 256mb to 2 GB?

is 256 extremely low? ie make it difficult to even work a web browser and a spreadsheet at the same time?

or could there be some other reason the laptop runs very slow (loads of free disk space)

256 MB is ludicrously low and would be annoyingly slow.

The laptop will take the same as the L100-112 and 113.

After buying those that were compatible for the l100-112 it seems this isn;t the case.
