Advice on the best bank account for ad-hoc use?

Basically I want to get an account set up for general spending use. I will be inputting cash when I have it spare but also will need a switch/visa/mastercard, etc... for spending.

Any advice on the best accounts for this type of use?? Preferably one that gives you some free money for setting an account up :rotfl:

try first direct- they give you free money ( £100.00) if you open an acount with them however you need to put in £1,500 each month ( wages perhaps)

You usually have to put your salary in each month to receive a financial incentive.

The banks offering 'free money' normally also insist that you fund your account each month. A&L are the least demanding in this respect as they only insist on £500 a month rather than £1000 or £1500.

Thanks for the replies peeps... Does the deposit of money each month have to stay in the account??

Or can I, get my wages paid in there then transfer out straight away!?!!
