It's not worth "mucking about" as you need the Fire Brigade out to deal with a chimney fire, so just get it done!

When on earth did I ever say I was "mucking about" or I wouldn't get it done? I know I need the chimney swept, that's why I asked how much I should budget!!!!!!!!!

My neighbours had a chimney fire last week, and yes they had to have the fire brigade out, so I know how important it is.

I have not lit a fire since we moved in, and I absolutely will not light a fire until the chimney has been swept, so why did a couple of people in their replies start to lecture about how important it was?

Thanks to all who gave me updated prices, now I will know if I'm getting good quotes or extortionate ones!

    Cheers

For goodness sake, calm down. Your response is a complete overreaction to what was a general observation, not aimed at anyone in particular.

Maybe, the words were a little clumsy, but they were genuinely intended to inform those who don't know, that the consequences of poor chimney maintenance can be pretty dramatic.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

Not a lecture, just a mention to people not as well-versed in all things chimney as you clearly are :D that an unswept chimney is a fire hazard and can be a death trap.

Lots of other people will read the replies given - and I'd hate to have a chimney fire happen because I didn't give full information

Had mine done last week and it cost £30. I always get the certificate for the insurance just in case!
  • Does anyone know of a cheap, decent Chimney sweep in North London?

    Thanks in advance
  • Any suggestions?

I need one in N. London too.
  • I just paid £38 in East Sussex. He said chimneys should be swept annually, but ours wasn't very mucky so he said I could wait 2 years.
Just a word of warning - if he finds a bird's nest in the chimney, it costs £80!!
But I was told this before he started.
