I have three fireplaces so I have to get two swept and it usually costs me £25. I can't work out why I get them done every year as we never light the fireOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
I had mine done just before Christmas and it was £25. First time in 20 years though as I only have about 4-5 fires a year when it's really cold to back up the gas central heating.0

Hi all,
Resurrecting an old thread here... just wondering if £15-20 is still around what it costs for a chimney sweep?
Have recently moved into rental house with a fireplace, hasn't been swept in years I'd say, there's soot or coal dust literally dripping from the fireplace, so need to have it done before I light the fire.
Starting to get cold now so I guess I should get onto this!
Any idea of what budget I need to plan for?
Nothing left of this month's wage so has to wait 2 more weeks till payday.
Cheers

I had mine done at the end of the summer and they were a bit over £20 each. If they haven't been swept for sometime, they may be full of stuff (we found a load of nesting material and a dead bird in one of ours, despite it being swept yearly, and us having fires in all during the winter  ). If they're very blocked, they may be more expensive to clear, unless you have a good relationship with your sweep.
Definitley don't get a fire lit until you're absolutely sure that the chimney is clear, and in good condition (no smoke escaping into rooms above).

It's not worth "mucking about" as you need the Fire Brigade out to deal with a chimney fire, so just get it done!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
