Although...and this is a bit shameful to admit..yesterday I cancelled the tv license...:o
not to just `get away with it`, but because I`m having to get rid of the tv too, just can`t afford that nearly twelve quid going out every month.
I am sure I read somwhere that you don't need a tv licence if you watch old programmes on your pc.
Someone will correct me if I am wrong though.0 -
Hi All I may be a bit hit and miss this week as the boys are off for halfterm and I can't always prise a pc off one of them :rotfl:
We've also got a few medical appointments *fun* so its [STRIKE]un[/STRIKE]organised chaos as usual here
Icewytch I'm so sorry to hear you're in such a tight situation ATM I hope things improve for you soon..I second what everyone says about selling the unfinished products.
I had a great little business on ebay and although I sold finished articles too(I did it 'cos I enjoyed making stuff) I always made a killing on the actual raw materials with no effort involved in making stuff up!
It's all in the listing..if you give people ideas (or pics) of what they can use your product for, they are more likely to buy
I love the pouch idea :T might be worth knocking one up for a photographic example on a listing.
I haven't caught up with the rest of the thread yet so excuse me if my posts are waaay behind everything0 -
Icewytch, I know what you mean re the dark ages, I'm up in the border hills, my neighbour is from Shetland and loves it here because the weather reminds her of home!
The past (almost three now) weeks, we`ve had continuous high winds and sleet, hail and lashing rain along with thunder the past few days (which took out my phone line, argh!)
Each night we`ve had power cuts, which I don`t actually mind, out come the candles and paraffin lamps and I read.
What drives me crazy is that my loved ones hate power cuts and moan about it, getting all fidgetty because they can`t surfthenet/watchtv/etc.
Love all the craft ideas, and will take them on board and see what I can do (101 uses for a sheepskin, hee)
Thanks guys.0 -

Well - I've just got rid of paying that tv licence - I never watch tv anyway - so have just put the tv in store to use for videowatching only in the future (ie when my area is digital - so it wont work as a tv anymore anyway). I have read - on this site - that one doesnt need a tv licence anyway for watching tv programmes on line (summat to do with them being recorded?) - so if I do get the urge to watch the odd tv programme I'll do it that way. I think the confusion arises because of the wording of the notice one gets through from the TV licensing people when cancelling a licence - but we've had it made quite clear on this site before now (think MSE Martin himself has said so?) that the licence isnt necessary for watching on line.
By the way - Icewytch - sounds like you've been paying for your licence monthly by direct debit. Don't forget to get back the money they owe you - probably several months worth of tv licence has been paid for in advance.
I certainly dont see any "shame" in not having a licence if one doesnt need one - its perfectly legal and the way I see it is that the powers-that-be feel no "shame" in charging me extra Council Tax because I'm single (ie 75% of the household bill - when it should be 50%).....so.....0 -
if the business is falling off, shut it down, just for the winter, so you at least get enough money coming in. you are entitled to income support!!! they will ask you if you business has ceased trading (yes it has) and you will get income support. if you are registered as self employed with mr taxman, and you have made a loss this year, then you can apply for a tax rebate as well. and if you live so many miles from a signing-on office, you sign on by post. this way will at least get you fed over winter.0

making the most of shopping in T: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I sat with a laptop on my knee the other night and a notebook on hand and I went through every one of Ts special offers. I picked the ones that I would need for christmas or for my store and I went around T with a list. I got everything that I wanted, plus organic lamb shoulder at £7.99 instead of £13.99 (I cut it into 3 pieces and froze). I saved LOADS plus I got the petrol coupon that the exercise was for
every little helps as everything I bought was an offer :rotfl:
lots of the reductions were pretty well hidden too0 -
Just catching up from the weekend
icewytch - have you tried etsy? It's like ebay for handmade things, when I signed up it was a couple cents to list an item and the listings last until the items sell, i think. Just remember it's all in $$ so roughly double what you'd ask in £ for it.0 -
icewytch - Sorry to hear of the situation you are in
I'd LOVE some sheepskin wrist warmers if you make some !!! If they fitted almost to the knuckles and up the wrist they would be perfect for me as I get bad aches and pains there - let me know if you make some and I shall buy
I bought sheepskin liners for my buggy - they were a simple long oval shape with holes cut for the straps - would be easy to make and people pay lots for them - i got mine for about £29 each
Anything "baby" is bound to sell
They are also good in hot weather as they stop baby from sweating and overheating - have a look at some other sites that sell them - or ebay. Hope that helps0
