Icewytch - are you certain you're not entitled to more cash than that?
Been racking my brains ... could you for example do cleaning, ironing, decorating, babysitting, cooker-cleaning (lots of people HATE that), any kind of tuition, make Xmas cakes/puds to sell? Alter clothes, make curtains, walk dogs, keep an eye on empty houses? Basic B & B for birdwatchers/walkers?
That's probably no help whatsoever because I imagine you've thought of most things but there must be SOMETHING!;)0 -
icewytch how about cutting a bag size piece of (thin) hide and try to sell on ebay. A lot of people are into making their own bags. Or mocassin sized pieces and perhaps make a leaflet to show how to stitch together with an awl and 2 needles or a children`s kit to make a little purse or pouch0

knee and elbow patches. Supply the right shape with small punched holes
pieces to stick over a small box to make a smart pencil holder or gift box
pieces to emboss and stick on a favourite notebook0 -
Hi, I agree with all the ebay ideas.
Also, my mum used to be a florist and used drift wood for a few floral art displays for competitions. People would maybe buy it for this, or floristry wholesalers etc.
What about rhubarb and things would that grow up with you? I'm in Aberdeenshire and it grows plentiful here. Could make jam and sell it. Maybe some of your neighbours have it sitting unused in their gardens, thats what happens here.
Does a citiizens advice rep come to the island at all, they would be able to advice you on exactly what benefits etc you would be able to get. I know they come to small communities in my area, might help x0 -

Icewytch, I don't know if I've missed someone else saying it, but just want to say - supplies sell like the clappers on etsy.com. It's one of the few sections on there where a good number of people seem to make a proper living.
I would certainly try chopping up a couple of hides into suitable small sections, and listing them there as supplies, rather than trying to make a finished product. Listing fees are blimmin cheap compared to feebay too.
anyone else who lives near/has a ready source of something that could be used in a crafty way - you too!0 -
if there is a furry side to the hides, you could bleach them and sell tiny sections to cardmakers to use for Santa beards on cards...0

Icewytch, I know what you mean re the dark ages, I'm up in the border hills, my neighbour is from Shetland and loves it here because the weather reminds her of home!
Is it possible to tell "them"0 -
OOOps ! LOL --Tell "them" yur no longer self employed and go onto benefits, until next summer then start again?
Get seeds and plant a garden in april.
advertise for babysitting jobs/mothers helps/and remember farms -- farmers wives are often rushed off their feet and glad of a few hours help.
Can you knit ? Talking about the dark ages--do what they did to survive & keep warm - KNIT !
And yes the ebay thing is always handy ..
Collect anything from the beach that will burn...0
