cheap holiday in n.ireland

hi

have posted here as its ni specific.

looking to go away for a few days 12-15th march and wondering if anyone can reccommend anywhere. we are two adults and a 9 month old baby.

needs to be very very cheap and ideally no more than couple of hours away form belfast. probably 3 max or four if its super cheap. we were thinking up here rather than down south due to euro but if anyone has any cheap ideas down there feel free to pitch in!!

  • Hi there, I visited Belfast for a few days last October. We stayed in the Premier Inn in Belfast which was very centrally located. I felt it was good value, but maybe staying outside the city would be cheaper...I'm sure someone else will come along with suggestions.

Heheh, check out the OP's location ;)

Have you considered a hostel? Some of them do family rooms and I've heard that the one up the Antrim coast is nice or are you thinking of cheap hotel type thing?

i suppose a hostel would be ok as long as they had the facilities we needed for baby bottle and heating food etc + a cot

  • What about Enniskillen, there is a Youth Hostel in the centre of town but I don't know how noisy it gets at night time. There are some lovely bed and breakfasts that would not be that much dearer than the hostel. Check out the Drumcoo Bed and Breakfast, on the outskirts of town or the Willowbank Guesthouse - this is on a wee road down to the lakes, very nice and not far out of town.

Cafe Uno in town is very nice and has an early bird menu in the evenings, the Golden Arrow diner is class for fish and chips. Kamal Mahal's Indian does a buffet for £5.95 during the day. Dolakis is a lovely greek restaurant and is not expensive during the day either. The Buttermarket in town is nice for crafts and has a lovely coffee shop and Mauds down near the shopping centre is reasonable and does nice snacks, pizza and salads and of course ice-cream!

Lots of nice scenery with the lakes. There are really cheap council boat trips to Devenish Island and White Island but I don't think they start until after Easter. The Marble Arch Caves don't open til after Easter either. Florencecourt House or Castle Coole are nice for a wander round the gardens or there is a lovely walk down beside Enniskillen castle.
  • Bed and breakfast somewhere like Ballycastle or Causeway hotel?

depends what you want to do and what kind of budget. we might be able to help more.

The Antrim coast is beautiful so how about Portstewart or Portrush in a B&B? The Bushmills Distillery and the Giants Causeway are nearby and Portstewart has a long sandy beach (The Strand). A quick google has found this family run b&b in Portstewart http://www.wanderinheights.com/index2.html which looks reasonably priced.
  • There is also Oregon guesthouse on Station Road in Portstewart or Maddybenny between Coleraine and Portrush. If you check the NITB website and need any help with location etc. let me know.

17th March is St Patricks day in Ireland so u may find that hotel prices etc are a bit inflated for the dates you are wanting to go. Personally, I love Fermanagh but it really depends on what u want from ur few days here - u might prefer Belfast city centre which has loads of places now to stay to suit all budgets.
