Hello
I have zone alarm on my laptop, only it won't allow me to go on the t'internet with it on which means I have to shut it down when I need to go on it, is there any way I can fix this or change the settings or something?
Also what exactly does it do?? Someone put it on my laptop along with a couple of other things but i'm not entirelly sure what on earth it's for and when I look on google I don't really understand it.
Thanks

I know the rules of punctuation and grammer I just choose to ignore them (or forget them half the time)... Apologies in advance

Have you disallowed your browser, if so, delete the entry from the application list, and answer yes when it prompts you. If that doesn't work, delete all entries from the application list, and when you launch the browser, tick allow when you get prompted.
It's a firewall, to stop people hacking into your laptop, if you have a router, that does the same job (inbound).0 -

Sorry where do I find that?? Just had a look at it and don't know where to look.
No I'm wireless and using my next door neighbours Wifi (which they know about and are happy for me to use) until we can get it set up at home as our Vista keeps crashing so we don't want to put it on until thats all sorted, would this make any difference?
I should probably know this seeing as I work in telecomms and can remotly move extensions and whatnot, but the IP side goes right over my head!!I know the rules of punctuation and grammer I just choose to ignore them (or forget them half the time)... Apologies in advance0 -
Turn windows firewall on in control panel, and uninstall Zonealarm.
If you have enabled file sharing, you need a firewall on unless you want the neighbours to see your files.0 -
In ZoneAlarm click on Program Control and then under there you will see Main and Programs. Click on Programs. You will see a list of programs. Find your web browser and check it is set to allow under access trusted and internet. If it has been disallowed and is set to block then you can allow by left clicking on the cross and selecting allow.0

Id consider uninstalling zonealarm and using windows own firewall if I were you:idea:0

Open Zone Alarm, go to Firewall and change the settings from High to Medium. Let me know if that works.
If it does, Right Click on the Zone Alarm icon in the system tray and select About. Let me know which version is indicated.
Either way, the problem will likely be solved by installing a later version of Zone Alarm.
Go through the steps that I have suggested, come back with the answers and I'll indicate the version that you will need to install.
I think that you can safely ignore most of the advice that has been given on this thread.0 -
Better yet uninstall zonealarm especially if its the free version and install either comodo firewall, PCTools Firewall Plus with Threatfire, or Sunbelt Personal Firewall.0
-
Id suggest against sunbelts, it slows quite a few computers down (Including mine and my grandfathers):idea:0

Only reason I don't use it is because it conflicted with avast on my system, but I never had any slow issues with it.0
