    Much appreciated

  • Suma brand sunflower seeds (https://www.suma.coop) have a warning on them.

The 23kg sack we bought for birdfeeding purposes doesn't - but I'd guess is not cleared as fit for human consumption.

I have a 1kg bag of sunflower seeds in my fridge from Out of this World Organic Food store (http://www.ootw.co.uk/m1aboutus.shtml) which does not mention nuts at all. As it's organic then it would be pure seeds.

They only cost £1.69 per kg (don't know if that's expensive or not) and last for ages even though I have them in everything from morning oats to evening meal and salads too.

Hope that helps. If you need help sourcing some then just PM me cos there is a shop just 3 miles from me.

Sorry Thriftlady, I checked in M&S today on the packets and the sunflower seeds and the pumpkin seeds are NOT suitable for nut allergy sufferers as they are produced in a factory that handles nuts.

Thanks for that,I got really excited until I realised my nearest shop is in nottingham and I am in worcester :(

It gives me hope though :)

Thanks,ti1980,I hate it when they say 'not suitable for nut allergy sufferers'.It makes you feel really irresponsible if you buy it,when really it means the same as 'manufactured in a factory that also proceese nuts'.

    Hi thriftlady,

Sorry to hear your problems with finding sunflower seeds..

I was interested to note your DD also has an egg allergy? I think my DD has an intolerence to eggs, but when I went to the doctor they said she probably did and to not eat them til she was older as she would probably grow out of it. However she seems to be able to eat some products with small amounts of eggs in (some cakes etc) but not others at all - yorkshire puddings being one example. I just wondered if you knew more about it, and could give me any insight as to why some things are ok and not others?

Thanks for any help you can give me

You could try emailing this site, they seem to be on the case of quite a few companies :T

I did find an organic sunflower seed supplier that did mail order but found this statement hiding on the general info page:

    Nut Caution
Please note that we store nuts on our premises along with all other products, we do not have a special nut free zone.

  • Thanks sproggi,
This site looks like it could be really useful to us :j
  • Checked in the Co-Op this evening while I was in there for something else. Co-Op brand sunflower seeds (45p/100g) says "packed in a factory that processes nuts and sesame seeds" - not sure if that amounts to the same thing as "may contain nuts" though
