RTA while on sick leave in the army I had to travel in my own car to MO

Options
Contracted MRSA Summer 2008 and had some time off, I had to travel to my units Med Centre from my parents address were i was bedded down 2-3 times a week to have wounds repacked.
I should have had a SAM file set up but when i went to the unit welfare officer to ask if i could claim the milage back for the last month 80 mile square trip he did not have a clue i was off for so long and file was set up on July 6th so was not under any welfare until after accident.
RTA happened 27th june after I went to MO and was then told to drive to the hospital on my way back to parents to have a blood test, As i was turning into ti hospital a lady came screaming round the corner at the car was a right off.
I am still not back at work fully and am awaiting Headly Court for wiplash also been told i have tinittus and a clicking jaw. Also Post Traumatic Stress. Can i claim through the Army comensation scheme. The lady who crashed into me has now taken back her addmission she has sent texts to me addmitting fault and also was said infront of independant wittness, But it may come down to a 50/50 claim. I have missed 2 trade training courses now AIP missed
CAn someone help me with some info been a bad 2008

When you say told to drive to the hospital, what was the reason for non-availability of service transport?
  • I was on sick leave and was just told to make my way up to the barracks when i had a appointment. there was no Sickness managment plan set up for me while i was off and no contact with my troop. First off May 5th then RTA 27th June Sam's file set up 4th July when i had first visit. Returned to work 11 August

did you ask for military transport? ie put in a request?

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
  • No was at home bedded down. So no transport could be booked but wasn't even aware it could due to no contact with unit. I went to a appointment had my wound redressed then told to go to my parents and come back next time for new dressings.

how long have you served?? I'm sure you could still use the phone! considering you was well enough to drive.

If you didn't request it how could your unit know you needed it?? especially as your not in contact with them!

when you was contacted by the MO to get your blood tests done you should have rang your unit and requested transport

I had MRSA so was only allowed in and out of med centre. When asked about transport after the Sam's visits started it was like getting blood out of a stone plus you need written evidence for a 1000's So the time I got there i was done in each time and had parents driving most of the visits. The time i drove the MO asked if i could have the blood test done at Hospital this time as would get results quicker. I rang and told Admin each time i was signed off for another week or 2 until i had to be admitted to hospital for a week but still no visit from unit. A big !!!! up really is it classed as duty travel or are you going to carry on chopsing off?

  • I also was told i could claim milage back as the Sam's was not avalible so that you tell you something is wrong. Clock up around 2500

your final comment shows how stupid you actually are

you don't need written evidence at all...and you could have sorted it all over the phone...especially when the MO(why didn't you get him to do something to help you when you was in the med centre?) is involved as he would just ring the CO

you had the energy to drive sometimes (but not always) but didn't have the energy to sort out transport for yourself......and now because your out of pocket from an accicent (though not your fault) your now trying to claim money from the Army

Here's a simple answer for you

YOU didn't request transport and YOU didn't get a none availability of transport form signed by someone who can sign them (for someone who has been in for 3 years YOU would have known this).....so YOU are the only one to blame. unlucky.

  • I was told to use my car and RAO was contacted by welfare officer about claims as i was up and down all the time and at random times of day and other traval to other bks for physio/CPN. A car would not of been practible as only 1 duty driver very small unit and the times they tried it was unavalible. Im not out of pocket as i was told i could claim miles back as complicated case. But the real question is and do you know what a SAM's file is? Should i have had more managment before hand Occupational health was only informed August i was off work for 3 months and 2 months before i had a home visit to see what could be done. This is when i was allowed to put claim in. Can i claim the 50% back of my insurance claim if she still withdraws her fault text from evidence

To claim mileage within the RAF for example, you would need to submit s F658 (thats a Request for Military Transport) and to have this stamped as no veichles available.

Then, if you are travelling for service purposes, you would need to have Business insurance.

If you submit the claim on JPA for PCR, and get audited, the claim will be taken back off you as you were not fully insured for the journey.

As for the Army, this is a different thing, and i would ask your local HR Admin Staff about this, and start getting names of people who said what, as you may need them..
