Sounds like you have a lot to think about. Definitely would second the idea of going back to your supervisor for a chat. And if that doesn't work what about the head of the department?

Is there any chance of negotiating a year out and picking up where you left off? Do they have a student support person for dyslexia?

Beachkill Christmas dinner sounds intriguing...very Gordon Ramsey! xx

    Tee hee to Gordon Ramsay

    Waves to Starnac too

I am seeing someone in Aberdeen about the dyslexia bit and our own student support lady is ace - I don't think I really want to take a year out, my project budget won't let me anyway - its a fixed term thing. But I did ask about it earlier in the year.

My head of dept of our whole dept is nice supervisor so seeing him on Friday after a big supervisory meeting on Thursday to discuss my writing

What do I want to do in 5 years - um - dunno just slurping Mr S value tomato soup and thinking before I get back to work after lunch. Had a walk on the beach too.

What do I want to do - dunno..................as long as I work with flowers I don't really care, don't have any mind blowing ambitions to do much to be honest.......... pretty family orientated - haven't ruled out another child if it works in with life............although I am getting on a bit :p

After Orkney probably find somewhere ruralish, decent garden or a small holding, with access to adequately annoy my younglings at whatever they are upto..............

If they don't want me interfering then................um find somewhere ruralish to annoy my younglings:rotfl:

I guess half of getting myself debt free is to increase our options later on - no real mad ambitions to pursue an academic career or any career really.............oh dear what an example I am

Back to the books in the mean time - why exactly doesnt Orkney have many trees........................

kinda - that and trees in constant wind (only 10 days here a year without wind) don't like it much so they don't grow as much

....and they have to put up with wet soils in the winter (we dont really get frosts here v often) means their roots have to sit in sogginess all winter - some of which die and then they do get blown over

all in all - not much fun if you are a tree

Lots of tree 5000+ years ago - but it was supposed to be warmer here then:rolleyes:

    Fay... Hello!

I'll be there for the fudge day of your Christmas menu! :)

As for the PhD... yes, you have a good long think about it, and I'm around if you want a chat :) I had a few sessions with a trainee life coach a year or two into mine, I was absolutely convinced I wanted to leave.

    Somehow I decided to stay.

Now I've handed the damn thing in, I don't care about it at all, and am perfectly happy doing 2 days a week PA work for a disabled woman, and digging in the garden, and doing lots of cheery voluntary work :)

So no sensible advice - it's enough that YOU KNOW you could do it - certainly isn't a failure if you give it up. Decide what fits in with your life... Yes, it'd be nice to be Dr of Flowers, but will you do anything different anyway? There's plenty of other ways to make a living from flowers :)

I'm sure you'll figure it out, I'm not being very coherent tonight... but good luck, and be kind to yourself...

    Daffs
    xx
  • Oh Fay - have a hug or two to be going on with........

Only you can decide whether the hassle now is going to be worth the end result. Is it possible that as time goes on your own personal goals and targets in life are changing and that's affecting the way you're thinking about the work stuff? I would also say that in this life there is a lot of expectation that people are going to be / should be hugely ambitious. I realised a while back that actually I'm not that fussed about climbing the ladder, and that actually I was only assuming that I ought to be trying to do that because of the expectations of others. I love my job and frankly would be quite happy if I could carry on doing it for the foreseeable future - I just don't have ambitions to climb any higher up the tree than I am at the moment! I've been so much more settled in my own mind since that fell into place too.... might be worth analysing a bit.

Can you ask your good supervisor to clarify why your previously agreed deadline is being shortened also? Seems crazy to me that it's been acknowledged that you need more time if anything, and yet someone has decided to go against that....

Just got a payment through for a bit of wii rock band game that wasn't expecting yet (60) so put that to gargamel woo hoo (feels a bit like cheating cos its in my online saver, so its 'tucked away' but not 'spent' which makes me be a bit more chavaleir with my spare money (cos its not gone.....just moved) but hope I can keep the disipline up to keep the money in the saver.....

My Lloyds loan is finally under £1k - woo hoo its now - :) its due to be paid off by Sept 2010 - yippee I took this out in 2005 to do my MSc - its now 962.74 DR
