Karmacat, I THINK (although correct me if I'm wrong!) that Fay isn't handing in her whole thesis in June, she's doing the upgrade bit where you hand in a long proposal/ long piece of writing, and they talk to you/ examine you/ you have to present it to the department, then they decide if it'll be a worthy piece of PhD research and whether you're capable, or whether they're just going to give you/ let you do an MPhil instead. It usually happens in June anyway in our department, I don't know what the normal procedure is up there. :)

Fay, don't think you haven't achieved anything! You did great! They know what the problem is now, and it's documented, so stick with your third party advisor, and if you end up changing supervisors, or putting a complaint in about this one, then you've got proof that you were taking all reasonable steps to sort it out - that's great! Keep on your third party advisor person, they sounded much more sensible, and don't be scared of getting in touch with Aberdeen supervisor, it sounds like they'd be livid if they knew the support you were(n't) getting up there!

Hope today is cheery for you, I'm phd-ing and working this afternoon, and no stripey socks cos I'm wearing sandals, but I've got astripey skirt on instead! Hooray!

    Hi Fay,

Wanted to say well done for standing up for yourself and keeping cool. I agree with other peeps that this'll have done more than you may think. Based on your food tree(?) - which was very helpful - then big boss can't very well eviscerate smaller boss in front of you, not cricket. And as a complete aside do you know after football, cricket most played sport in Scotland - I'd never have thunk it.

Keep the faith, you'll do great in June and it'll help restore your confidence in your own abilities.

I so nearly (fingers crossed I didn't) get a bank charge yesterday for going over by 3.26 - I only noticed in time to transfer the money and the other silly account doesnt clear immediately.

Grr I am so mad at myself
