Morning (or is it afternoon now, lol!)

Well done on your all nighter Fay, I've never managed to do that! I switch off completely at about 8pm and can write nowt sensible after that (or before, generally, but you have to try!)

Writing on hold for a few hours here today - I'm trying to fill in a job application form! Bloody ridiculous things, now I know why I haven't bothered so far!

But remember - this is one of the (very few) advantages to getting to the end of the PhD... being able to apply for a £32 grand a year job that has only 6 essential requirements, one being a PhD, and another one being 'an ability to undertake administrative tasks when asked by the head of department' - lol! I couldn't NOT apply!

No idea whether you should keep going - I often wish I'd quit before I even started... but then I've had a few years of only having a silly supervisor to answer to (not a PROPER boss...), 8 weeks holiday a year (supposedly), being able to go to work in me jimjams, no council tax,a railcard (not much use to you up there, lol!), and an all night library (oh wait, that's not a good thing!)

So all in all, I'm glad I carried on (and doesn't the grant go up each year??). Much better than a real life job (or at least than the real life job I've got at the minute as well as it)

The only thing I'd say (well, apart from all the other things I just said) is finish before your money runs out! I'm 2 years over now, and it's been a right pain in the backside trying to juggle 18 hours of work a week with writing.

    Good luck!

(oh, and a quick note, my little sister rang last night to tell me she's getting married in 3 weeks! Only 2 guests each, and a pub lunch afterwards - very MSE! Silly girl is managing to fit a marriage, a house move (to a different county), and a third baby (when the other two are still toddlers) into the space of about 2 months. Mad)

Has your superviser not seen it before now? Why does he suddenly think its bad english?

It is a work in progress..does he not recognise that English is a changing language and therefore he may not recognise the linguistic subtleties?;):D If you can argue your case he hasn't got a leg to stand on.:rotfl:

Sounds like you should do the same instead of taking any notice of him Fay :) I stand by what he said before - how on earth he can expect anything BUT a draft at this stage boggles the mind.

I'm 6 years in and not handed in anything other than a draft yet :)

And yes, have the weekend off, you deserve it :)

You sound like you're having a wild time up north.

Your supervisor is an imp escaped from hell...somebody somewhere will be looking for him calling "Beezelbub, time for dindins".

Fraid I've had very little expereince of academia, just finance where they scream and shout and stamp their cloven little hooves a lot. Told him I'd wait til the tantrum was over and if he was good he could have his test*cles back - the velcro would make it easier next time. Now lets talk about my redundancy 6 weeks later :o:o:o

Have to laugh or cry and then laugh again. Scares the kids into behaving anyhow. I'm following the diss with bated breath.
