Was just kiddingnowt to apologise for - I worry sometimes we get some of the best food in the world locally for not much money - so I shouldn't go on!!
The poor must eat lobster eh? I think its very ironic - no money but a cracking lobster for lunch on the beach at a very selective restaurantvery DFW

Awww - poor you Fay - was wondering where you'd been - getting a bit worried about you but glad you're on the mend a bit now. That lobster was a bit of a beast wasn't he - excellent, thanks for sharing the photos. I know what you mean about fancy food for a less than fancy price - we eat things like Scallops when we're up on North Uist as they are so reasonably priced - brought a big box back with us to - now split up and in the freezer - yummy!
My car has a brightly coloured blanket made of crocheted squares too - made by Mum and I when I was first learning to drive. It's been in all my cars since I passed my test in 1991. (18 years ago yesterday!)
Keep yourself tucked up nice and warm - lots of lemsip and hot drinks and hope you're feeling better soon xxx🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Warning dumb question alert
(I've come in from gardening lucielle - maybe that's what everyone else is doing)
Here's the dumb question:
the bit that comes out of the seed first, is that the root or the shoot?
I just want to know if I'm planting my sprouted seeds upside down, I'm sure they'd cope if I did, but I'm curious
You are going to hate me for this but it depends on the plant, where its from and how it would grow naturally - ignore the waffle below
You will learn to generally not mention the word 'plant' or how does a plant do this .......my kids now run - screaming
Plant need moisture, heat, light/dark and 02 (oxygen) - they are all important - if its too wet, cold or hot or in too deep and it might not get enough air - they are simple but need a balance to let it do its stuff - just like us
Generally what happens is the embroynic radicle (the new root part) comes out of the seed first - then it can anchor the seedling in the soil an start to absorb moisture. Then the baby shoot emerges from teh seed with the cotyledons (little seed leaves - which normally don't look like the proper or true leaves) which will push up through the surface.
BUT they do this differently for different plant groups
Some plants the first thing that happens is the new first root will be pulling rather than pushing them through the soil - beans do this BUT peas etc keep their seed leaves under the soil and just push up a tiny seedling and then germination starts.
Generally though - they know who they are and how to do it - a root will generally gravitate to hook itself into the soil - most 'individual' factors for plants will depend on how they grow in the wild - some plants need a real period of cold then warm (stratification) to germinate thinking that its summer. Some plants need another trigger like fire, or lots of moisture or a specific amount of light/darkTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

"Martin Clunes Islands of Britain" - ITV, on now if anyone is interested to see what life is like living on an Island. He's on Shetland at the moment, and will be looking at the Hebrides later in the programme - not sure if he's covering Orkney as well.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hmmmm, I may have understood some of that.......:o
It was me peas that confused me, (germinating on damp kitchen roll, so no soil for anything to cling onto.) and fortunately I didn't sow them deep (which I have tended to do when sowing them in the garden because we have lots of birds who think my veg plot is theirs to scratch over)
They're now in their toilet rolls and I have high hopes.......
Bob Flowerdew would love my veg plot at the mo. I have raised beds made from pallets, potatoes growing in bags and Evian (posh lodger) bottles as individual cloches. Secondary glazing panels work as cold frames and me seedlings are in toilet rolls :rotfl::rotfl: I even have plans to build self watering containers with some leftover plumbing........
I still manage to kill things though.....:o0
