Faye, any tips on putting up wigwams for peas and beans as mine never stop up. I usually use canes and wind string round them. Then they blow over or lean precariously.

I did that last year and sunk another piece of wood either side as a prop and tied rope either side, a bit like tension on a tent...if that makes sense, anyway they were 10 foot poles and did the job.

Did I mention there were 2 breweries here - local beer is ace

Orkney Dark Island is my favourite beer in the world. I can't often find it down here unfortunately - but do make sure I drink plenty at the Great British Beer Festival in August to make up for it. :D

:rotfl:sorry the thought of being able to grow them outside here oh you do make me laugh:rotfl:
(I have to grow mine in a polytunnel or in a conservatory/greenhouse and I have to do that for sweetpeas as well - sad but true I do live in the north pole - or so it seems)

If you mean the long tenty wigwams - then BOB is spot on - do some kinda nifty anchoring. I cheated when I lived on the mainland and got OH to put in two deer stobs - one at either end of the row and then tied the whole thing to that.

Second year I did the same thing but bought some cheap willow trellis and secured that between the deer stobs and had an instant really strong kinda 6ft structure.

If you mean the round wigwam ones like indians use to use as houses (probably still do - ) then .....if the canes are deep enough they shouldnt really wiggle too much just make sure like bob says you anchor them well.

Twas indeed the beer of the beef stew - makes a lovely beef in ale that one

Should you ever feel the need for some local beer I can happily post you some - it posts well :D (envelope gets a bit squishy though)

And its the slugs beer of choice - if indeed they were choosy.
Found some slugs inside some plant pots tonight when I went to repot some geraniums - those naughty naughty slugs - they soon went flying - I set them free.

Slug count up in the 200 ish mark now - and down to only 1 egg a day.
