I'm dying to know how Fay's swanky night out went - I hope she remembered to pack some footwear other than wellies.....! ;)

Swanky night went well - thanks for asking!!

Knee length boots were the compromise with wellies - although there were only 2 non-horticlutural people there so wellies wouldn't have looked out of place............

Harvey Nicks for cocktails was fun - its very odd seeing my pals not in wellies TBH and dressed a bit posher!! Not a wooly hat in sight - but much talk of MUD!!

Much excitement as we went to the nicest wood fired oven pizza place in Ed - much lovely food and it was a great laugh - these folks have known us for about 10 years now - 5 of us went and studied at the botanics so it was great to catch up on families - and life and (new partners!) and things like that.

My friend who was 60 looks as amazing as always - funny though I seemed to come back with MORE money than when I started the evening with!!

We also have another port of call on our mad trip to france as one of my chums gardens just in the borders so its enroute.

Many invites to Orkney - but it was also hard to leave everyone and we all stood blethering rubbish outside in the street as my old plant boss in Fife handed over plants to one of my pals for her garden (at gone midnight in Edinburghs St Andrews square - look slike a dodgy deal going on :))

I even brushed my hair (had straightened it too) and had make up on - oh la la - got some pressies too :)

Away for a cuppa with the inlaws and then up to the plane.

All fine at homeski - many texts/calls as I don't think I have been south on a jolly before without them........

  • Haley hope the dog is OK

    Molly - well done

Medman - that's a nice campsite, depends what you like doing I guess there is a replian place on Skye - worth a look if you like that kind of stuff. Broadford has a lovely bookshop, its worth a trip just driving around the island as its really big and the scenery is very dramatic. Will dig out some books and think some more - :)

Sligachan campsite is lovely and there is a great pub just beside the site which do brilliant food and from what I remember they often have live music. The views are to die for. It can be a bit of a 'wet' campsite if hte weathers not brilliant so just be aware of that in your planning.

Essex Hebridean you must be missing your island :)

L - hope your trip goes well to Skye later on this year.

Came home to bleak, dull, wet, grey, cold island. A friend and I at the airport just said Oh great!! - having just come back from bustle and sunshine and friends ........be OK when I have settled back in.........

Got some new jeans - how decadent :) next petite size at least fits me.

Bit sad am home ( and happy) odd experience - OH and I tick along amazingly - sometimes I wonder what on earth I am doing 300 miles away from him. (I remember - short people - call me mummy - thats the reason - doh!!)

Excuse the moan - ever desperately wanted to be in two places at once? Here is great for us, kids, dogs, gardens, working (sort of), lifestyle, lack of crime - no fast food joints and of course beaches.

He can't work here (earns 4x more than me) not that its about the money - its about him being challenged and 'the future' - whilst I would happily live in a wooden mud hut - he's a bit more practical than me. Pensions, houses and childrens Uni etc are all to be taken care of as well as mud for the mud hut roof. He lives in a town (I tried it for nearly 3 years and it almost killed me) in a flat, with a shared tiny garden (all lovely but I was actually trying to garden everyone elses patches too to try and survive) and he lives upstairs so his house wasn't even connected to the earth outside - 17 stairs up to the front door - I know this cos I bought 17 big pots and put one on each step :) and filled them with veg and flowers.

I know lots of lovely people live like this and manage - it just made me super miserable. I am of course completely aware that I am a spoiled brat and very selfish.

Just sometimes I wish he'd be as impetuous as I am and say OK - I am moving up. I have at least 5 years to go here - the thought of doing that on my own is a bit scary and a bit lonely......................................(please don't say awww - I am just feeling sorry for myself) how can you marry someone and then say Ok sorry got to go home now and each go to your own house - OR is that the ideal marriage??????

Normal service will be resumed later.

PS Olive how do you do it?

Glad you had a fab time Fay - sounded like a great night last night - always tend to get the giggles when I see people wearing really "different" clothes to those I associate with them!

*Ooh - David Tennant on TV.....SWOON*

Sorry about that - bit of a wobble of concentration

*Oh lordy - Rupert Penry-Jones on TV now - yum yum!*

Ahhh, right, now, where was I? Oh yes - Islands...yep, missing the Hebs a bit at the moment - really didn't want to leave this time, gets harder each year and we both wish we could spend more time there.

Re Skye - it's a beautiful Island - this year we actually saw a bit more of it than just the main A87 between the bridge and the ferry port. The Storr is marvellous just for sheer Wow - that's Weird!" factor - ditto The Quirang which has some of the strangest rock formations you will ever see! The Waternish Peninsula is a lovely area too.
