Business Account - wants to take payments by credit card (not Paypal)

I manage an ebay business account, selling envelopes. I also have, through my company, access to a secure payment website, where my customers can pay me using a credit or debit card. I have looked at my payment preferences and nowhere can I see how to set up Ebay checkout to accept credit cards. What am I doing wrong? Or, can I not do this? I only ask because the other day someone posted a link to ebay on a thread about customs charges, and one thing lead to another and I discovered something about an Internet Merchant account.

When selling an item, you can click "credit cards" as an accepted payment type.
However as far as I'm aware, all this allows the buyer to do is select this option when performing checkout, in a similar way which they can specify that they are sending you a cheque if you choose to accept cheques.
You would then need to contact the buyer and direct them to your secure payment facility.
Frankly, as a buyer, this is an option I would be less comfortable taking than just paying by PayPal.0 -

That's strange, because you'd imagine scammers are less likely to have a secure payment facility than a paypal account, which any old scumbag can open or stealMy TV is broken!

Just because somebody tells me they have a secure payment facility isn't going to make me want to give them my credit card details, when with a few clicks I can pay through PayPal and get the usual level of protection I would expect as a buyer.
I can just hear George Agdgdgwngo's voice: "It is totally legitimate, madam...."0 -

Oh sure, giving your credit card details over the phone to a seller you haven't used before is a bit daft, but if they can supply a link to a legit, secure payment facility, then I don't mind using it.My TV is broken!

True, I probably wouldn't mind using it as such, but you have to admit the way eBay has integrated PayPal into checkout that most people will just find it easier to pay that way.0 -
unless you offer an incentive to not pay by paypal then 99% will0

If you can take card payment, get a telephone number on your listing.
A good sales pitch, some standard blab on delivery time etc. and you'll find the words 'can I order this now' are often mentioned.
Sorry ebay. :rolleyes:0 -
The less people with access to your credit card details the better, paypals the only safe way for buyers to buy off ebay0

Anyone who thinks paypal is a safer method of paying for goods knows nothing about paypal or online payments. Paypal is only good for Ebay their owners and they will one day stop all other forms of payment imo.0
