That's a sound piece of advice again dacouch; to be perfectly honest, I'm happy just as long as they arrange for our stuff to be replaced (where applicable) and if it can't be replaced is paid for.
The main arguement seems to be over the replacement and replacement costs of the furniture despite Rainbow International attending and reporting that all the furniture -bar a couple of items - were "beyond economical repair".
The chap from Legal and General said that he's hoping to have an answer regarding it all shortly - quite frankly as long as I get the same quality of items that match etc I don't really care where they come from. . . . with that said, with all due respect, if you've got a special order leather suite from Belguim you wouldn't settle for a £200 "discount superstore" suite would you?0 -
Hi
I have a similar claim going through and Rainbow are due to come out to inspect the damage. Its been a month since I've been in a hotel and my claims adjuster is not giving me much info. on what I can claim for. He has said I can claim for hotel costs but does this include food? As my house was flooded, this is why I am in a hotel and as such I don't have a kitchen to cook in.
Has anyone else had a flood in their house?
What could you claim for?
I have read the policy and it allows for accommodation and the claims adjuster is now looking for temporary accommodation for me now.
Many thanks

You cannot technically claim for food as you would have had to buy food if you had stayed at your home. However as you are staying in a hotel where the food is no doubt more expensive or you are limited to take aways you have a good arguement for asking them to make contribution towards it.
If the loss adjuster is not playing ball ring the Insurers up directly and plead to their better nature they will probably be willing to help0 -

Hi there
Our loss adjusters didn't even offer alternative accommodation until we almost "demanded" that they provide this as per our insurance. They have since also offered a contribution of £20 per day for "additional food expenses" as there are 3 of us in addition to our hotel costs (which were paid out of our own pocket).
We had / are having serious issues with getting things sorted via the loss adjusters - we were constantly told "your claim is in hand" - so I would recommend that you contact your insurers directly - that's the advice I was given on here and it really helped to get things going and find out why there was a delay in processing our claim.
Good luck with everything, I hope it starts getting sorted soon!0 -
I'm glad to hear things are starting to move, it is sometimes so much easier to speak to the Insurers Claims Department if you get stuck (Although bear in mind they will be very busy at the moment due to the weather). The Loss Adjusters are equally busy and ofetn out of the office dealing with other customers so sometimes you will not get the service you expect in times of an emergency.
I had my house burn down many years ago and I realise exactly what you are going through.
P.S If any of you need any further advice post it on here as there are plenty of us who are more than happy to help.0
