RBS bankers in line for millions of pounds worth of bonuses

  • I worked for Natwest/RBS until last year. The bonus was called a profit sharing bonus and was payable to all staff, I can't see how that if they have made a loss, they can justify paying the bonus. Even though I appreciate how hard the staff work.

These aren't profit share bonuses the papers are talking about :) There's no profit share this year.

I was talking to someone in my old branch yesterday, and they said they may still get their profit sharing bonus, they will find out on results day.

News to me. We have been told categorically no. I think they are in a bit of denial in the branch!!

I have been with the RBS since I was 6 years old. That is 26 years of banking with the same bank. There is this one woman who used to act like the sun shone out of her @rse and would look down her nose at me when I would go in when I was overdrawn a few years ago. She does not seem quite so smug now.

I have transferred my ISA and all my savings from RBS to Alliance and Leicester. Purely because they have a better interest rate. All the same, as a Scotsman I am ashamed of RBS.

    RBS is toxic.
  • I have always had a problem with bonuses, a company I worked for 20 years ago was paying 20% bonus at the same time it cut the payroll by 250 people. IMHO Bonuses should be a token, non contractual gesture, and no more. A company I work for more recently paid every member of staff £250, from the MD down to the Receptionist. It came with a note from the MD which stated that differentials were reflected in basic salary only, good on him I say, he knew damn well that the lower paid staff were the ones that provided the bread and butter of added value to the company.

So to me no more that £500 each to the bank staff, with a note saying no more for the time being
    [strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

    Target: Stay debt free
  • I think it's pretty poor judgement to award big bonuses to bankers after they lost so much money - it makes not sense! even if some teams made money they should all be responsible for the general health of their company, and given we bailed them out, that means zero bonus. I can't believe the government isn't putting more pressure on these bank bosses...
