Blue Tack trodden into carpet!
Comments

the white spirit works really well, I had a dozen or so bits in each room, so didn't want something that took ages - kitchen towel and white spirit rubbed them all off very quickly, even though they have been there for years. Then used carpet cleaner to get rid of all the white spirit smell.0

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it is the top result on google, so still relevent i guess!
Anyway, didn't belive for a second that the olive oil method would work, so tried freezing it first, to no effect.
The number of people on the thread saying that the olive oil worked convinced me to at least give it a go. So i dabbed a tiny bit of extra virgin onto a cotton bud and was very carful to only touch the blu tack and not the carpet. Much to my suprise it started sliding off the carpet.
In all it took about 5 minutes and it was as if the blu tack was never there.
So thank you guys and galsThat's one thing i won't be losing my rental deposit to at least!

Borrow a CO2 fire extinguisher if you do not have one ( You really should ! ). Put the horn over the offending blue tack, give a quick squirt and hold it on for 20 seconds. Rub between your fingers, it will turn to powder ,then vac !0

Olive oil did the job.
Great tip Thank you.
After trying several of the classic ones normaly used on chewing gum such as ice/freezing or brown paper and an iron normaly used to remove wax with no results the Olive oil and cotton bud worked with in seconds.

I just tried the olive oil and rubbed it over the blue tack with a cotton bud, even though it was well trodden in and its a lightish colour carpet it worked well! The blue tack just came off on the cotton bud
Playing with the kids I noticed a blob of blue tack ground into the carpet under the nine year old's knee. After my initial reaction subsided  now what to do. To the Internet! Found this post
Scrapped off as much as a I could with a knife and then olive oil and a tissue, Blue tack begone. Amazing. Carpet looks fine, will check again in the day light but looks great.0 -
Brilliant! Just used the olive oil and cotton bud method on several BT spots on my carpet and it worked a treat. Thank you.0

Interested to return to this and see other people's experience. Olive oil is nicer than white spirit but must leave an oily stain - need to blitz afterward with carpet shampoo just the same as white spirit. But it suggests any organic solvent might work. Someone should try vodka (or gin) ie uncoloured ethanol, and let us know if it works.0

To be honest, I had a little bit of doubt this would work - especially as well as it did. Thanks for saving me tearing my head out and becoming frustrated and angry (at my son who was responsible for getting blutack stuck in our carpet!) Olive oil. Does the trick well and truly.0

So we've had some white tack ground into the carpet for something like 5 years. Had tried a couple of things at the time, and ended up covering it with a rug, then furniture. Spring cleaning, I thought I'd give olive oil a shot (taken from a literal pot of olives that had started to go bad) and amazingly, worked as described. Dipped bud in pot, and used it like you would use a coin on a scratchcard!0
