What to do with car?

Our car broke down recently, had it towed to the garage and the bad news is that it needs a whole new engine. It is a Mondeo, Y reg, worth about £2000 and the cost of a new engine is going to be probably what it is worth. As we dont have that kind of money to get it fixed, we have been ringing round to see what a scrap dealer would giuve us, ranges from £80 to £150 so far. Obviously not enough to buy a new car. Is it worth putting the Mondeo on Ebay, apart from the engine, it is great, good bodywork, air con, good cd player etc.
Would any garage take it in part exchange for a cheapish 2nd hand car for us to buy?
Any ideas welcome!

I would think that the way forward would be to buy (via your knowledgeable car mechanic friend / neighbour), a second hand engine from a breakers yard.
They would give a short guarantee with it, to prove "it works".
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi..
If I were you I'd put it on Ebay with a reserve and see how you go from there. You may get silly offers in the early stages, but you may be lucky and actually get a decent bid for it!0 -
I don't know where in the UK you are but try calling your local council, in London most councils will(or used to) take away cars free of charge (it's better than finding them dumped and burnt out).
I live just outside London and a guy with a van offered to take away my old car free the other year, so they are out there.
I also thought that the manufacturers are now liable for the recycling costs of their cars due to EU regs, so it might even be worth phoning Ford and saying you have a car that needs to be recycled.
Also, have you actually checked the price of a rebuilt engine swap ?0 -
