    It depends.
How big is the sink you are looking at? Does it have a draining board? Do you also have a dishwasher?

Small round sinks, with no draining board look very good in small kitchens, & make the room look a little larger, as they give you more worktop. But, if you don't have a dishwasher, they are a total PITA. You can't fit anything larger than a dinner plate in, you need to get a draining board with its own drip tray, & forget about trying to wash a casserole dish or grill pan....you need to use the bath.

With a draining board they are slightly better, but you lose that amount of worktop space.

If you have a dishwasher, & wash everything in it including saucepans, then it's fine. You'll only really use the tap, the the sink part is rather irrelevant anyway :D
  • i have a dishwasher int he utility, litterally 2 steps from kitchen sink, where there is also another square sink so i thought a round one for occasional use in the kitchen will be nice and use the utility for washing up when needed?
do u think it will put people off if we ever get to move?
not for a while now!lol cheaper 2 stay up

In which case go with whatever you want - don't bother thinking about what someone else will want when & if you move. Most people can't stand other's tastes & will want to rip your whole kitchen out anyway! :D
  • I have a round sink and a round draining board next to it but not attached to it if you see what I mean, its a pain to do dishes in as the water splashes everywhere but i tend to use the dishwasher anyway and it does look really nice!
  • thanks caroline, my mum as worried that it would be risky because of all the extra water might damage the worktops etc? also can a tap be cut straight into laminate worktops?

I have a small round sink in my kitchen, not by choice it was there when I moved in. I do use the dishwasher, but there are certain things I wash by hand like baking trays, roasting dishes. This is where the problems come in, the sink is so small I cant fit my baking trays in to wash them.

If you are going to buy a round sink take the largest item you want to wash by hand into the kitchen showroom and test it. Yes, you may look a bit daft but better that than having the aggravation of not being able to wash up properly once it's been fitted.

Personally I would love to go back to my old rectangular sink.

Sounds like you are not going to be using the sink for much just getting drinks and filling pans etc, so you should be fine. I had one of these in a rented house as said total rubbish when the dishwasher broke down and was not fixed in 6mths we moved out!

If you are having standard laminate (aslong as all the cut edges are sealed)or granite etc it will be fine the only ones to worry about are wood ones.

Yes the tap can be fitted direct to the work top.

We had one in a rental place and no dishwasher and no room for a dishwasher.

It was a nightmare. The sink was too small to wash up mum's big pressure cooker pot, baking trays only fitted a corner in the water  Finding a washing up bowl that fitted was a mammoth hunt.

The draining board was also separate from the sink, round and tiny and hopeless with 5 living in the house. And always pools of water between the sink and draining board as you move stuff across.

Has put me off them for life :o
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • hmm well now i am thinking again!
however i do have the sink in the utility room for washing big stuff.
now i dont know what 2 do lol

  • Hiya, I had a round sink and round drainer in my 2 bed flat.

I'd agree that it isn't as practical as a combined sink/drainer - the water does go on the worktop, but a wipe with my dishcloth managed to address that problem...

I'd have one again - it looked so nice and was more in proportion for the size of my kitchen which was small. I can't remember if there are different sizes but I didn't have a problem with the size of mine.
