A bit of an embarrasing one.

Hello all

I recieved this letter today out of the blue.

NCD.jpg

I called up Wescot, for them to tell me they were collecting on behalf of Red Hot for 2 adult movies I'd watched in 2005.

I never subscribed to any adult channels, but watched the odd pay per view movie. To which I was under the assumtion the money came direct from my account, hence the name pay per view. If it didn't why have they now waited 4 years to decide I owe them £8.98?

I don't have any statments that go back that far. I have tried to view statments online too, but to no avail.

Do I just pay up to save embarassment?

Thanks.

  • Whatever you do, don't talk to Wescot on the phone, put everything in writing so there's a paper trail. If they happen to call you, tell them you will communicate in writing only.

we had this sort of letter last year, we wrote back asking what it was for, they replied saying we had watched some sort of "adult material" via "satellite" and gave us the names of 2 films we had watched. we wrote back telling then they where barking up the wrong tree as were both gay!! and we would fight the case in court, silence from then on. go to this page and copy the letter in reply #17 http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/debt-collection-industry/175452-wescot-chasing-digibill.html
  • Thank you very much.

This was covered by Radio 1 news a few weeks ago (You might find something on their website). The debt collecting agency get the ISP address of who down loaded the movie and then get the users name from your Internet Provider.

The radio 1 report had found that if you have an unsecured wireless internet connection your neighboor or a passer by could have hooked into your internet connection and downloaded the film. This is why it shows your ISP address. The company agreed they would not persue people who could prove it was not them.

Have a look on the bbc website as its bound to have something on their as it was a big story

P.S If your wireless is not secured get a password on it!
  • This I presume by what they were saying is a movie watched on TV.
  • That doesn't even look like a proper Giro slip. No sort code on it.

Hi Just wondered how to find out whether my wireless is secured? I don't put a password each time I log on - is this risky? Many thanks
