..However...I did a job last weekend, decided to read the instructions on the tube whilst waiting for the electrician. That tube said under no circumstances should you wet a finger........dont know why !

I used masking tape to create a perfect line and then I have this tool I got from wickes to spread the silicone. As long as the silicone is thin towards the masking tape, when you remove the tape it looks good.

I think I'll give it a miss reading the instructions. Yesterday I got through 5 tubes of silicone at work. On every one, I did my old spit on the fingers trick of smoothing it out. This works so well, I'm a bit loath to change just because it says so on the tube.

The alternative to the spitting is to make a bowl of water with a dash of washing up liquid in it.

Then dip your finger in & the mastic will tool up nicely.
