Broadband speed question!

I went on the BT site and found the following when entering my phone number.
http://www.bt.com/broadband/

"Our initial test on your line indicates that you should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate of 2Mbps, 1Mbps, 512Kbps or 256Kbps. "

We already have 2Mbps, but were considering upgrading to a higher speed and uncapped provider (currently with BT). Does the above mean that the max our phone line can take is 2Mbps? In which case we should look for the best 2Mbps offer?

Sorry if it is a silly question, I only just found out that it was pointless going for 8Mbps if your phone line can't actually deal with it :o

Thanks in advance all!

    Thanks.
how near is near? there is one down the road, about 10 minutes walk!

Would I have to request an upgrade and does it cost? Or, could I find out when the upgrade will happen if it is something that BT will do off their own backs?

I just need to know if it is worth researching 8Mbps providers or just zoning in on the best 2Mbps provider

thanks again ... and sorry for all the questions :o

If you want to find which of the LLU providers are available at your exchange, see this post for links to their own checkers.
