a cracked sony psp faceplane and screen cover!

Options
Hi folks,

I have a sony psp that I use a lot, for both storing digital pics, mp3 player and gaming...im a big kid realy!

The black faceplate with the inbuilt glass screen lens (that covers picture screen) has a good sized crack at top right side, both on faceplate and also glass viewing lens over screen. Dont know how it happened, but its there. The picture on screen is perfect I think its just cracked faceplace and glass lens (which I hope is part of the faceplace). Obviously I would like to sort it out. I dont know how it happened, as I never saw it knocked or fall. (I thought that it might be friction from hands playing it that started it, and it just got worse, but maybe not) The shop that I bought it from doesn't want to know as they say that Sony refuse to accept any psp with any signs of crack on glass screen. Don't know about my rights there, shop manager told me to contact Sony or shops complaint department, no mentioning of sales of goods act or trying to sweet talk him made him think any differently.

Could some techy minded person please confirm to me that a new faceplate is probably what I need with inbuilt glass lens that will fit over screen (picture area which seems ok) and if you have any info on how Sony react to this problem and how it would affect my remaining warrantly all the better. I do know that to fit a new faceplate myself makes the warranty void.

thanks

Joe

You could phone Sony and say your child dropped it and see if they say anything or if not ask them how much it is to replace the faceplate providing that the screen is not broken as it will be more expensive.

If you get no joy Lik-Sang sell replacement faceplates ranging from £16 to £20, the faceplates that they sell are third party ones so they are not endorsed by Sony. I have seen a company a while ago who were selling official Sony faceplates but they wanted about £40.

Here is the link to the Lik Sang page with the faceplates
