To start off i really don't know anything about computers, sorry:( But last night my laptop stopped responding. When I switch on the icons load up but I can't do anything i.e go into anything , go online or shut it down . I can start up in safe mode and I did a system restore but nothing . I have norton 360 installed. I really am clueless and would appreciate any help or am I lost cause. I did read thru some threads but it was all chinese to me, I had no idea if any of the info was relevant to me
Thanks x

I do wonder if it's Norton 360 causing this, in safe mode you should be able to go into control panel , then add remove programs and remove it. You can always reinstall it laterEx forum ambassador

Put the CD back in and run the installer...
It'd be better to disable it rather than uninstall IMO. However if you are completely technically phobic, uninstalling will be a quick fix - but that might not be causing the problem at all.0 -
Any ideas what might be causing. Also I bought the norton online so don't have a disc:oPut the CD back in and run the installer...

ok I've given up and rang someone to take a look at it. They're gonna call out later. Is there anything I should be asking or watching out for. I don't want to get ripped off
Thanks again0 -
Did you try uninstalling norton 360? or just decided to ignore Browntoa and call someone out?
Uninstall the software if it works great problem solved if not then we try somthing else. as it works in safemode thet it is a software problem not a hardware problem it is just a case of finding out which peice of software and norton is really bad for causeing problems.
the next step would have been to boot in to safemode with networking and to download mbam and perform a scan to see if that works. both very simple tasks for anyone to do. calling an engineer will cost you £55+ for somthing you could have done on your own maybe in 30 minutes.0 -
Use the norton uninstall tool

Wether it works or not we can always put free software on (Saving you a packet):idea:0 -
If they reach for the operating CD/DVD to do a reinstall, ask them what about my data - it's fixable without a reinstall, just need some patience.0

Should i reinstall norton or use something else
Once again thank you so much , you probably saved me a fortune :A0
