I *think* I want to invest about £80 a month into one of these. Does anyone have any recommendations ? The Legal & General UK Index looks quite good.
Many thanks
Ian.

Old Faithful we roam the range together,
Old Faithful in any kind of weather,
When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is mellow and bright,
There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.

Because it is a tracker, and it follows the FT index and all compasnies track that ,therefore they will all have move up and down at the same time, the rate they charge per year is the factor to consider, and Virgin have the lowest rateirmclarke wrote:I *think* I want to invest about £80 a month into one of these. Although you would be tracking one of the worst indexes. Charges are not the be all and end all. Whats the point of saving 0.5% a year when you could be handicapping yourself with performance at 3-5% a year.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

>> Virgin have the lowest rate
I thought Virgin had quite high charges!0 -
At present the index tracker (Uk) with the lowest charges is The Fidelity MoneyBuilder Index Tracker at 0.3% per annum.
The trackers may follow the same indexes but do not all have the same performance. Management costs ,tracking error and the style of tracking affect the performances of each fund.
From Motley Fool:
'Tracking error
The tracking error measures how closely a fund tracks its chosen index. No tracker is able to exactly match the index because it is not always possible to buy and sell enough shares at the exact same time that the index changes. However, most funds will be fairly close. Some funds will publish their tracking error. In other cases you can estimate it yourself by comparing the performance of the fund against the performance of the index. '

I believe L&G, MG and Fidelity all sport the lowest TER @ O.5%.
Do check the yields though on the Trustnet table - there is some variance there (cutting the yield is a quiet way of sneaking in an extra fee.)Trying to keep it simple...
