Building my pc

  • you can pretty much swap and change anything. Make sure your memory and CPU are compatible with the motherboard (best to get them together), and then everything else plugs in like Lego.

i would like to build my own pc. Are there any websites that could help me? I have lots of time but very little knowhow.

When I built my first one, I used one of the specialist supplier sites, which guided me through compatibility issues and component selection, to give me confidence that it would hang together. Then bought the individual bits from wherever was cheapest. I have been surprised and delighted at how easy it all was, and how well it works.

    I suggest you look at:

  • If you might want to switch over to gaming in the future make sure you buy a good power supply now. Modern graphics cards require a lot of power to run, some need two dedicated supplies direct from the PSU.

you could also try the following
    https://www.extremetech.com
    https://www.tomshardware.co.uk

Both have PC building guides from entry-level browsing/email machines to high-end gaming machines.

    Hope that helps

Bear in mind unless you have some parts already or can get cheap second hand parts you're unlikely to save much by building it yourself. Especially a budget machine. If you want to do it for the experience go ahead but it's not really a way to save cash.

I'm not worried about the cost, Bill.

My neighbour's son was just telling me he built his pc very cheaply and has a graphic card called goes like hell. Is he having me on?

  • I'd never come across the 'goes like hell' 8600gt before, but hell has moved on since he bought it :)
you're not worried about the cost...£5k seem an ok price?
