Virgin Holiday - Price Decreased By £500 Since Booking

Hi all.
Having booked a £3000 summer 2009 Virgin Holiday to Florida back in September last year, I recently checked the current price for the exact same holiday on the Virgin website. To my horror the total cost is now over £500 cheaper than when I booked. So much for booking early to get the best deals.
Does anyone know if there is anything I could do to save some money?
I thought about trying to amend the holiday to a different date or accomodation and paying the amendment fees, but not sure if this would work.
There used to be deals where if the holiday price reduced the holiday company would match the reduction with a refund, but I can't find anything with Virgin.
Any advice out there?

What are the rules on cancelling? Maybe you could cancel and rebook and despite losing a deposit still save money?0 -
If the holiday price had increased would you have offered to pay the increase?
Apart from cancelling and rebooking (if you can) i doubt there is anything you can do.You were obviously happy with the price when you booked it and the worst thing you can do is keep going back to see if prices have changed."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

No, for your information I don't think would offer to pay the increase.
However I see in the t&c's Virgin would absorb the first 2% of any surcharges before passing on the rest to me. Whether they would reverse this seeing as the cost of fuel has gone down I'n not sure. It would be nice if they would.0 -

I *think* virgin do something where you can "cancel" a booking and transfer accross the deposit onto a new booking, i expect you would have to change some components of the holiday though so it may not be worth doing.
ETA:- I just did a quick google search and think I am right, but can't see any details on virgin site so you will need to call them and enquire about the costs involved to make amendments to the booking0 -
Most tour operators do allow you cancel a booking and transfer the deposit to a new booking, they do charge for making the amendment.
Prices do go up as well as down, it's common practice in the travel industry. Chances are the price will go up at some point and could well end up being more than you paid.
The worst thing you can do is check after you have booked, I booked flights to Florida 2 weeks ago and won't check the price again as I was happy with the amount I paid.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Have you actually called them yet? I'm sure if you called them they would tell you your options!
If booked through a travel agent call them to see what they can advise... surely easier than speculating with us lot0 -
I called them last night and the (Indian call centre I think) operator was not able or willing enough to help transfer my holiday to a new booking without it costing even more than the original holiday. I asked her to extend the holiday by one day and recalculate, but she claimed she could not calculate on todays rates.0
