Icesave ISA Certificate

How long is it until the certificate arrives? Received cheque three weeks ago, but no certificates yet

Comments

  • From funds being paid into my account and FSCS Icesave re-investment certificate arriving in the post was around 7 to 10 days (that was just before Christmas).

Might be worth getting in touch with FSCS, http://www.fscs.org.uk/contacts/ just in case.

  • Hi,

I received my Icesave money back into my A&L current account a couple of weeks ago. I did not have to fill out paper forms.

Will I still be receiving a certificate? I am confused about how I re-invest this money. I was looking at the 3.5% Northern Rock ISA fixed for a year but will I have to wait for this certificate?

    Thanks

If your savings with Icesave were in an ISA, then yes you should be receiving a certificate in the post.

You will need this certificate to open (transfer into) a new ISA. It is possible that some providers will let you kick-off the application process before you have it in your sticky hands (for example Halifax will hold a fixed rate for upto 60 days while you sort out the paperwork).

You need to put the funds in an ISA account before 5th April if you want to keep the ISA tax-protection on it.

  • I have had some confusing information from FSCS. I received my cheque for my Icesave ISA funds yesterday. I called FSCS this morning to find out when I could expect the certificate to arrive and a lady told me the first week of April. I was slightly miffed about this and was told that if I disagreed with the process, I would have to put my complaint in writing. That won't help me get my ISA funds into another ISA account in time though. I called again this afternoon to find out whether I should therefore bank the cheque and was told that the lady must have confused herself as the certificate should arrive within 3 weeks - still too late for my current ISA provider (Birmingham Midshires). However, I am concerned because the lady this morning sounded definite about first week of April and could not have been making a slip of the tongue meaning to say the first week of March, because she kept reiterating that they had thousands of certificates to be printed out and that if I had only just received my cheque, the certificate would not be with me until the first week of April. If she was right, what happes to the ISA status, since the funds would have to be reinvested by 5 April 2009? Thanks

I think that you must've just got a rogue CS person.

Getting information from FSCS is often like asking directions in some parts of the world - you have to ask five people and then take the modal response as being true.

Haha, thanks for that. I agree with you. I'll just try to get the best return I can on it until my certificate arrives and then see if I can get more than 0% interest when looking for an ISA for the previous years! LOL
  • Help required please.....

.....OH's 08/09 ISA allowance is in new A&L account. They said she needed to wait until the certificate arrives before banking the cheque. It arrived nearly 2 weeks ago and has lost interest already since October 2008.

She wanted to bank it and get interest on it until the certificate arrived. Is it right that the cheque must be banked only when the certificate is also in hand in order to avoid loss of tax free status? If not, how can A&L be convinced to accept the cheque without the certificate?
