Ideas for Bathroom & Hall Flooring??

Have you tried cork tiles?

I used them in my bathroom in my old house, really easy to cut, you just use a stanly knife, bigger off-cuts can be used to fill the small gaps and relatively cheap and easy. I did my bathroom in an afternoon. the only akward bit is that you have to seal the floor with a couple of coats of varnish and so can't walk on the floor for 12 hrs or so for each coat.

the tiles have a nice warm colour and although not as warm as wood are much warmer than ceramic tiles underfoot. I would happily use them again.

You can get them from most major diy shops.

When we had our Karndean done, got a few snide comments about it being poor man's Amtico.

By the way, it works out a lot cheaper to order your karndean online (you can even buy it on ebay) and then get a fitter to put it down for you, rather than going to a fitter who will order it in for you with a nice markup. I had to phone round loads of fitters before I found someone who would fit it without supplying. But he did a marvellous job and I saved myself a fortune. He measured and told me how much I'd need to order - he was really helpful. If anyone lives West Kent and wants his details, feel free to pm me. He even offered to drive me to hospital if needed as he fitted my floor on my baby's due date!!

Thanks everyone for your input. I have already seen Kardean and Amtico, but maybe not the full range as I don't remember the tile effects being as good as they look in the pictures. If I was to have a wood effect, I would just match the existing laminate.

When people see our conservatory they always comment on how lovely our floor tiles are and then are amazed when we tell them it is actually vinyl. We went for the Da Vinci tile in Mocha which is this one. I'd say the reality is much the same as the picture.

It was the Amtico Spacia range we chose from which was cheaper than Karndean. Amtico is already finished as well whereas with Karndean a finishing sealant coat needs to be applied.

Thanks. Just been having a nosey on www.floorforyou.co.uk - looks like spacia is the amtico cheapest option at around £21 pm. Which is cheaper than a lot of options of Karndean, but not their cheapest option which is the Knight tile at around £14 pm. I suppose it depends on what you are comparing with.

We got amtico in our hall just before christmas and we love it. Our hall was really dark and dull so we picked a light stone looking one. Looked at karndean but preferred amtico there is much more choice. We got it online from www.pearsonfloorings.co.uk . We went to john lewis first but its way too expensive there its nearly half price online. I really recommend this guy he was so helpful and answered my millions of stupid questions and put me in touch with a fitter! Would definately use again

Karndean tends to very expensive. Your warranty and guarantees will be null & void if you do not use the SPECIAL KARNDEAN ADHESIVE (which is very expensive....other suitable adhesives are available at a fraction of the cost), and a KARNDEAN APPROVED FITTER, (A fitter who has completed the Karndean fitting course, at great expense).



I would heartily recommend asking for either the 'Colonia' or 'Polyflor Camaro' ranges at your local flooring stores.

Both ranges are a well-kept trade secret:Both are made in the same factories as Karndean, are as equal on quality, but are much lower in price. this is mainly because they are sold by Flooring distributors to retailers as an unbranded range. these can be stuck down with a regular Multi-purpose flooring adhesive, (Which is absically what Karndean supply).

I would also recommend 'RhinoElements'. The same sort of product, manufactured by RhinoFloor and much better value.

Have you had any problems due to the hot sun causing separation between tiles? we have s facing french doors in the kitchen

I am only asking because we have a gentleman coming tomorrow to measure up for da vinci. Hall through to kitchen, about 23 sq m in all. We are going for pewter with silver and beech stripes. Looked great on the display and the kitchen door is opposite the front door and is always open. I just didn`t want more wood as we already have oiled oak and wood effect kitchen units
